Neufahrn b. Freising offers a range of options for a stay combining nature, activities and culture. North of the town lie the Neufahrn Mühlseen; there are also paths along the lakes, recreational opportunities in the sports and leisure park, and cultural sites such as the pilgrimage church of the Holy Cross – St. Wilgefortis. When choosing a hotel, you can first decide what you want to focus on during your stay: spending time outdoors, planning recreational and swimming activities, or exploring historical and cultural themes.
Mühlseen, Paths and Landscape
The Neufahrn Mühlseen are part of the “Freisinger Moos und Echinger Gfild” landscape conservation area and lie north of Neufahrn. A footpath and cycle path runs along the lakes from Neufahrn and Massenhausen. This gives you a practical way to spend time on foot or by bike in this landscape. The Isar floodplains in Neufahrn are also suitable for cycling, jogging and walking. Galgenbachweiher borders the sports and leisure park and is a popular local recreation area. The Mühlseen, Isar floodplains and pond each offer a different setting for days when you want to focus on being active and enjoying nature.
Activities in the Sports and Leisure Park
The sports and leisure park includes a miniature golf course run by TSV Neufahrn. There is also a Kneipp facility with a footbath and arm bath. In addition, it has a skydiving facility with a 30-metre-high tower. The same park therefore offers several different leisure activities: miniature golf, Kneipp baths and a skydiving facility. The “neufun” leisure pool and sauna complex offers a swimming pool as well as several saunas and steam baths. Courses include classic swimming lessons and Aqua Zumba. If a course is important to your plans, check the current schedule in advance, as course timetables may change.
Pilgrimage and Culture in the Town
The listed Old Parish and Pilgrimage Church of the Holy Cross – St. Wilgefortis features magnificent Baroque furnishings, with richly gilded altars and elegant stucco work. Its history is linked to the pilgrimage to a miraculous statue of Christ, which flourished in the 17th and 18th centuries. As well as its furnishings, the church offers a glimpse into the town’s religious history. The Mesnerhaus adds a different cultural dimension: since its renovation and official opening in September 2023, it has served as a venue for smaller cultural events. Historic church art and a venue for smaller cultural events offer different focal points for cultural activities.
More to Explore in the Wider Freising Destination
The wider Freising destination also offers its own nature and culture experiences. The Ampertal valley in Freising district is designated as a landscape conservation area and is used for hiking and cycling. It is home to numerous specially protected animal and plant species, including four of the 16 dragonfly species threatened with extinction in Bavaria. This combines a nature experience with a special insight into the Ampertal’s biodiversity.
Freising itself offers other cultural attractions. Freising Cathedral on Domberg Hill features a crypt and the Beast Column. The historic old town around Marienplatz includes burgher and canons’ houses dating from the Gothic period through to the Baroque; a Marian column dating from 1674 also stands there. The Schafhof showcases contemporary art throughout the year and hosts the annual Johannismarkt and an Advent market. The city museum presents around 350 selected objects and groups of objects related to Freising’s history. These themes add distinct opportunities to explore architecture, art and local history.
