Gosberg’s character includes a village structure that is still shaped by agriculture, an intact irrigation cooperative and a varied architectural history. The Catholic branch church, a late Baroque farmhouse, two half-timbered barns and a wayside shrine show different aspects of the village. For travel planning, there is also a rail connection and road access via the Forchheim-Süd exit.

Church and historic architectural styles

The Catholic branch church of the Most Holy Trinity at Gosberger Straße 6 is a hall church with a recessed, polygonally terminating choir and a west tower. The church in Gosberg, dedicated to the Most Holy Trinity and Saint Andrew, was built in 1717 in the middle of the village. A recessed choir is narrower than the church interior; the polygonal termination describes its multi-sided shape.

The imposing farmhouse at Gosberger Straße 5 is a two-storey ashlar sandstone building from the late Baroque period, around 1770/80, and retains historic fittings. Its features include a mansard hipped roof and a street-facing cross gable in the shape of a triangular gable. An imposing half-timbered barn with a half-hipped roof and lean-to roofs stands at Gosberger Straße 8; it is dated 1783. The buildings at Gosberger Straße 10 include an 18th-century half-timbered barn with a gabled roof and lean-to roof. The two barns differ in their roof forms—a half-hipped roof and a gabled roof—but both have lean-to roofs.

The wayside shrine at Gosberger Straße 31 is a sandstone column from the 17th century. It stands at the eastern edge of the village, by the garden fence of house no. 31, near the turn-off to the cemetery. Its column form and location add another local historical feature to the houses and church.

Irrigation cooperative and getting there

The term irrigation cooperative refers to a community organisation for irrigation. Gosberg has an intact cooperative of this kind, associated with the Schwedengraben and two weirs. Together with the village structure that is still shaped by agriculture, this offers a second perspective on the village alongside its architectural history.

Gosberg has a rail connection; by road, the village can be reached via the Forchheim-Süd exit. You can consider both as possible ways to get there when planning your accommodation.

Culture in the wider destination of Pinzberg

The wider destination of Pinzberg offers further points of cultural and historical interest. In Pinzberg, the peace pilgrimage of the soldiers’ comradeship associations of Forchheim district to Our Lady at Lohranger has been a tradition since 1989; it takes place on the first Sunday in August. At Easter, the Easter fountain in Pinzberg is decorated with garlands and eggs; members of the Catholic Women’s Association have been responsible for this since 1986. The two events differ in timing: one takes place on the first Sunday in August, the other during Easter.

The history house at Lohranger in Pinzberg is at the starting point of the St. Nicholas church hiking trail. It displays numerous votive offerings, elaborately restored wax figures, valuable liturgical vestments and sacred objects; a media station provides details about popular religious devotion surrounding the Pinzberg Marian Chapel.
