Therme Erding is a major attraction; museums, city tours, markets and walking paths offer other ways to explore the city. To help plan your visit, consider the different options: Are you mainly interested in swimming, the history of the city and its art, or paths through green spaces? Erding offers a range of possibilities to choose from according to your interests.

Therme Erding: saunas, slides and waves

Therme Erding is a bathing complex covering around 185,000 square metres in the west of the city. It includes the VitalTherme with 35 saunas and the Galaxy water slide world with 28 slides. The wave pool is heated to 34 degrees; you can surf there in waves up to two metres high. Saunas, slides and the wave pool offer different experiences within the thermal spa complex. Its history includes the discovery of a 63-degree-Celsius thermal water spring at a depth of 2,350 metres in 1983.

City history, art and museums

Museum Erding has a history of around 170 years and is one of Bavaria’s oldest municipal museums. Its permanent exhibition comprises seven sections, alongside rotating special exhibitions. A photo gallery featuring more than 1,400 images extends through the foyer and into the outdoor area. A variety of themed tours for children and adults, as well as museum education activities, are available year-round. Since current offerings may change, check the available programs before your visit.

Museum Franz Xaver Stahl preserves the extensive artistic and written estate of the painter Johann Georg Schlech. The museum also includes the Biedermeier house with its historic furnishings; Franz Xaver Stahl’s former studio has been preserved unchanged. Frauenkircherl offers a different perspective on local history: since its major renovation in 1986, it has served as an exhibition and concert hall. St. Johann is a brick building featuring a Christ by Leinberger. The Erding District Farmhouse Museum presents rural life and agricultural work in the 19th and early 20th centuries as authentically as possible. This gives you the opportunity to compare the themes of urban collections and art with depictions of rural life.

City tours give residents and visitors insights into Erding’s history, its main attractions and the old town. If you prefer this guided way of exploring, confirm availability in advance.

Walks, circular routes and views

Kronthaler Weiher is located in the Erding-Nord recreation area. The lake, play and sunbathing lawns, and park paths together cover around 45 hectares. As a swimming lake, it is a destination during the bathing season; walkers also visit outside this period. It is also a venue for the city triathlon and the Weiher celebration hosted by the water rescue service. Check the latest information for specific event dates.

Erding has several official walking circuits within the city, intended for both visitors and residents. The hiking trails are between 5.9 and 15 kilometres long. These are distinct from the themed routes, which take about an hour: they lead through the old town, through different city districts or in the footsteps of painters. The options range from a shorter themed exploration to longer hikes, though no walking time is specified for each individual route.

A guided tour of the town tower involves climbing 163 steps to a viewing point 35 metres above the ground. From there, the view extends across the city and surrounding area as far as Munich; in Föhn conditions, the Alps are also visible. The tour offers a view of Erding and a panorama whose range depends on the weather.

Markets and getting around the city

The Marktschranne market takes place at Schrannenplatz on the last Saturday of each month, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Regional specialities from the immediate Erding area are available there. Another market is the farmers’ market in the entrance building of the Farmhouse Museum, held every Friday from 12 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Since regular market hours may change, check the dates before you travel.

For getting around the city, the Erding city bus network has eight routes. The buses are exclusively electric and connect almost all city districts with the city centre and key facilities. Since routes and timetables may change, check the latest information when planning a journey.
