In Ulrichsgrün, historic farm buildings meet trails through the village and surrounding area. The Ulrichsgrün holiday village lies above the district on an unspoilt plot on a south-facing slope at 560 metres above sea level. From there, a footpath about 1.2 kilometres long leads directly to the centre of Waldmünchen. The hillside location and the connection to the town centre are therefore useful points of reference when choosing where to stay.
Staying on the South-Facing Slope
The MX2 holiday home model accommodates up to six people and has three separate bedrooms. The holiday village also has a table tennis facility, a football field and a children’s playground. Details about the accommodation and facilities may change; check the latest information when planning your stay.
The route to the centre of Waldmünchen is listed as approximately 1.2 kilometres. If you are planning a stay in Ulrichsgrün, you can take this specific connection to the town into account when planning your days. The holiday village’s location above the district and the route to Waldmünchen’s town centre describe two different points of reference: the south-facing slope as the location of the accommodation, and the town centre as the footpath’s destination.
Historic Farm Buildings and Glassmaking History
At Ulrichsgrün 1 is a protected historic agricultural complex. The barn is dated to 1724; dendrochronological dating places the Troadkasten (grain store) in 1787, and it was built using block construction. The dates refer to two different buildings in the complex and give it a clear historical context.
At Ulrichsgrün 3 and 3a are a former farmhouse, dated to around 1830/40, and a farm chapel with its fittings, dated 1865. The chapel at Ulrichsgrün 3 is a gable-end building with a pitched roof and a bell tower rising above the roof ridge. Together with the agricultural buildings at number 1, these structures represent different examples of local architectural history; the farmhouse’s former status remains part of its description.
The glassmaking tradition is also part of the history of the Ulrichsgrüner Valley: the Grassl grinding works was one of the glass-grinding works there and ceased operations in 1964. This former trade adds another perspective to the farming buildings and the farm chapel. When exploring the village, these subjects can be understood as distinct aspects of its history, rather than combined into a single building history.
Hiking Trails Around Ulrichsgrün
The Glass Grinder Trail is a circular hiking trail in Waldmünchen and the Upper Bavarian Forest Nature Park. It follows in the footsteps of the glass grinders; its route passes along Schützenstraße and/or by the Ulrichsgrün holiday village. Goldsteig Loop No. 10 Waldmünchen also passes through Ulrichsgrün. Within the municipality, the Goldsteig Loop connects the Goldsteig with the Nurtschweg. The trails therefore differ both in theme—glass grinding or long-distance hiking—and in how they include Ulrichsgrün.
