The Rundinger Spaziergang – Kleine Schleife takes you through Runding to seven historic and notable places. The Ru05 Rundweg Runding West offers a different perspective: it is an easy hiking trail with a sequence of named locations. When planning, you can choose between local history and a hike along a set route.

Local History on the Kleine Schleife

Stops on the Kleine Schleife include a stone pillar with a cross and a carved eye, the Böhmerwald Cross, a late Baroque granite sculpture of St. John of Nepomuk, and an 18th- or 19th-century Marian column. The Marian column was originally entirely gilded. The different forms and details give the walk its historical focus.

In the town center, heading towards Niederrunding, the Kleine Schleife passes a church built in 1973. Inside are a modern organ made by the organ builder Fleugel’s workshop and statues of saints by painter and sculptor Paul Hager. The church adds organ building and sculpture to the other stops.

Hiking Trail and Cycling Starting Point

The Ru05 Rundweg Runding West runs from Runding village square via Eyberg, Göttling, Schietanger, and Wohlwiesen to Runding Schlossberg and back to the village square. Its rating as an easy hiking trail and its sequence of named locations offer a different way to find your bearings than the historic stops on the Kleine Schleife. Check current trail conditions before setting out.

There is also a specific starting point for planning a cycling trip: the Große Familien-Rad-Rundtour begins at the parking lot by Rädinger-/Satzdorfer See in Runding’s district of Satzdorf. This places the starting point in Satzdorf; here, it describes where the tour begins.

The open-air museum “Burgruine Runding” is about a five-minute walk from the town of Runding. If you are planning a visit, check the latest visitor information in advance.

More Topics in the Wider Destination of Cham

Other places in the district of Cham also offer their own cultural and nature-related themes. They are additional options in the wider destination of Cham, not attractions in Runding itself.

In Furth im Wald, a town in the district of Cham, the Drachenhöhle offers a tour with information about the town’s dragon history, the festival, and the technology behind the dragon robot. The summer festivals are part of the Drachenstich tradition. If you are planning a visit to the Drachenhöhle, check the operator’s latest visitor information.

In Rötz, the Schwarzwihrberg nature forest reserve is part of the “Schwarzwihrberg bei Rötz” FFH area. This is a nature-focused option in the district, alongside the cultural themes in Furth im Wald.

In Neukirchen beim Heiligen Blut, the pilgrimage museum is housed in the former Pflegschloss. It contains treasures from the archive of the pilgrimage church. Alongside local and festival history, pilgrimage and its collection are another topic to explore in the district.

You can focus on Runding in its own right while also deciding whether to explore these additional topics.
