Rimbach combines hiking trails on the Hohenbogen with evidence of its architectural and local history. At the foot of the Hohenbogen, the town is nestled among meadows and forests. Notable destinations include the Lichtenegg castle ruins, with their accessible round tower, and historic buildings such as the Holmeierhaus and St. Michael’s parish church.

Hiking and Cycling on the Hohenbogen

The circular “Weg der Sinne” (Path of the Senses) hiking trail starts at the multi-generational park at the entrance to Rimbach and ends on the site of the former outdoor swimming pool. The route follows meadow and forest paths and passes stone walls, hedges and trees.

Another hiking option is the Ri1 circular trail (Hohenbogen Trail). It leads from Rimbach via Hinterlichteneck to the Hohenbogen castle site, is 12.7 kilometres long and takes about four hours. The distance and approximate duration together give you a specific indication to help fit the hike into your day’s plans. Rimbach also has a connecting trail to the main Goldsteig route that is recognised by the tourism association.

The two hiking trails offer different points of reference when deciding between them: the start and finish are specified for the Path of the Senses, while the Ri1 also gives the distance and approximate duration. Further afield in the region, the Rimbach holiday region and the area around the Hohenbogen offer two varied mountain biking routes with mountain crossings, fast descents and scenic views.

Castle Ruins and Architectural History

The Lichtenegg castle ruins lie in dense mixed forest at an elevation of 707 metres and feature an accessible round tower. The Lichtenegg Castle Festival is held in the castle courtyard every year. If you would like to combine your trip with a performance, check the current event dates in advance.

The Holmeierhaus is one of the last surviving examples of the “Waldlerhaus” house type. It recalls a style of construction that shaped Rimbach over the past three centuries. Visits to the house can be arranged on request through the tourist information office.

The interior of St. Michael’s parish church in Rimbach is late Baroque, with pronounced Rococo features. The Chapel of the Souls stands next to the parish church and was built in 1735. A church in Rimbach is documented as far back as 1438.
