Ramsthal brings together a history of winegrowing, historic details around the village and options for active days: red markers at terroir f explain grape varieties and the historic three-pole training system; the nature trail and art trail each have a different focus. There are also wine tastings and opportunities for cycling. If you are looking for a hotel, it helps to first decide whether you would like to combine your stay with wine, local history or time outdoors.

Winegrowing History and Tastings

At terroir f in Ramsthal, distinctive red markers explain the history of grape varieties and the historic three-pole training system used in Franconian winegrowing. Both different grape varieties and a historic cultivation method are featured here. At a vinotheque, visitors can taste wine and discover its variety of aromas. Winemakers’ vinotheques and tasting rooms offer opportunities throughout the year to get to know their wines. Wine festivals and wine service at terroir f are also on offer. If a festival or wine service is important for your travel dates, check the specific dates in advance. It is also worth checking the visiting arrangements at the relevant vinotheque or tasting room before your trip if you would like to take part in a tasting.

Bakehouse and St Vitus

The Ramsthal bakehouse was built in 1856. Its architectural features include an attached livestock scale and a fire brigade equipment shed. In 2025, the building underwent exterior renovation, including a new oak bench, a new sign and new planting in the outdoor area. The original construction and the later renovation offer two different connections to local history: the historic building and the elements renewed outside in 2025.

The Church of St Vitus can also be understood through different historical references. The lower part of the Romanesque tower dates from between 1000 and 1250; the base of the present church tower is dated to the 12th or 13th century. The church is first mentioned in written records in the 15th century. These dates refer to different aspects of the church’s history: its architectural features and its first written mention.

Nature Trail and Art Trail

The nature trail leads from the chapel, past the forest kindergarten, to Knückelein, the highest point in the Ramsthal municipal area. From there, the 360-degree view stretches to the Rhön, the Haßberge, the Steigerwald and the Spessart. The Ramsthal art trail has a different focus: it is a 2.6-kilometre circular route with five sculptures. They were created at the 1st Ramsthal Sculpture Symposium, held as part of Art Week 2019. The trails differ according to what you are looking for: Knückelein is the destination on the nature trail, while the sculptures are part of the art trail loop.

Cycling and Getting Around

Ramsthal is connected to the regional cycle network and is a potential destination or stopover for cycling tours through the Rhön. The village’s hills and valleys also offer mountain biking opportunities. If you are planning a cycling trip, you can include Ramsthal as a destination or stopover on a tour of the Rhön, or make use of the local mountain biking routes.

There is parking at the festival grounds in Ramsthal, as well as a wine and sausage vending machine where hikers can pick up provisions for their tour. If you are relying on these facilities, check the current situation before travelling.
