The Leibertingen Lynx Infopoint is located in the car park for Wildenstein Castle. The medieval castle stands near Leibertingen on a rocky outcrop high above the Danube Valley. If you want to consider both history and scenery when choosing a destination, this is a good place to start: the castle and the valley define the area’s historical and scenic character.

Walking routes and getting around the municipality

In the Leibertingen municipal area, the Way of St. James passes by the district of Altheim. Around Kreenheinstetten, a ring of ten wayside crosses offers the opportunity for a hike of about two hours. You can set aside around two hours for this loop in your day’s itinerary. The two route descriptions are distinct: the Way of St. James passes by the district of Altheim, while the hike past the wayside crosses runs around Kreenheinstetten.

Kreenheinstetten: church and museum

St. Michael’s Parish Church in Kreenheinstetten also offers a historical point of interest. At its core, the tower dates back to a late Romanesque predecessor built in the 13th century. A small museum dedicated to Abraham a Sancta Clara is also housed in the parish barn in Kreenheinstetten. The two sites offer different points of focus: the church highlights the tower’s architectural history, while the parish barn focuses on Abraham a Sancta Clara. If you plan to visit the museum, check visitor information in advance.

Sigmaringen as a destination in its own right

In the wider Sigmaringen area, the castle offers a distinctive way to explore history. It evolved from a medieval castle into a princely residence and is considered a landmark of the city. Guided tours of the castle cover almost 1,000 years of Hohenzollern family history. The private arms collection contains about 3,000 objects. The building’s development, the tours, and the collection each offer a different historical focus.

The city’s history can also be traced through a separate building: the Round Tower was built as a defensive tower in Sigmaringen’s old city fortifications and was converted into a local history museum in 1970. The Round Tower Local History Museum is open Saturdays and Sundays from 2 to 5 p.m.; check the opening hours before your visit. The Zündapp Museum at the Zoller-Hof Brewery displays more than 100 exhibits from the Zündapp motorcycle brand. It is located in the Marstall building at Fürst-Wilhelm-Straße 5–7 in Sigmaringen. As the location may change, check it if you are specifically planning to visit this collection.

For hiking, Sigmaringen offers five DonauFelsenLäufe, designated premium hiking trails through the Danube Valley, the Schmeiental, and the Lauchert Valley. Sigmaringen lies in the Upper Danube Nature Park on the edge of the Swabian Alb; here, the Danube flows through a landscape shaped by imposing cliffs and forests. The Danube Cycle Path also passes through Sigmaringen. The Sigmaringen weekly market offers a culinary connection, with regional products such as baked goods, meat and sausage products, fruit and vegetables, cheese, olive oil, and honey. You can tailor your stay to your interests, whether that means a hike around Kreenheinstetten, architectural history, collections, or trails through the countryside.
