Vöhringen offers hiking routes of varying lengths: the approximately 110 km Danube-Alb-Neckar Trail passes through the town, while shorter circular routes can be found nearby. Another route, about 5 km long, runs from Bergfelden via Mühlbachblick and Tonauturm to Vöhringen and back to Bergfelden. This gives you a choice between a longer trail, a route with named stops, and compact circular walks.

Hiking routes around Vöhringen

The Danube-Alb-Neckar Trail is about 110 km long and passes through Vöhringen. Its total length sets it apart from the circular routes in the surrounding area. If you want to include a longer route in your plans, it offers a different option from the shorter loops.

In 2011, the “Bürger für Bürger” initiative developed various hiking routes around Vöhringen and created a hiking map for them. If you would like to use the map for your plans, check in advance whether it is currently available.

The approximately 5 km Bergfelden hiking trail follows a specific route: it leads from Bergfelden via Mühlbachblick and Tonauturm to Vöhringen and back to Bergfelden. Both the intermediate stops and the return route are named. The Tonauturm circular trail is a separate route, measuring 4.5 km with 120 metres of elevation gain; Tonauturm is also named as a stop on the Bergfelden hiking trail.

The circular routes in the surrounding area differ in length and stated elevation gain:

  • Ferienhaussiedlung circular route: 3.0 km and 85 metres of elevation gain.
  • Hochbehälter circular route: 3.5 km and 100 metres of elevation gain.
  • Keltertal circular route: 4.0 km and 60 metres of elevation gain.
  • Jäcklesgrab circular route: 4.7 km and 90 metres of elevation gain.

The shortest of these loops is Ferienhaussiedlung at 3.0 km, while the longest is Jäcklesgrab at 4.7 km. The Tonauturm circular route has the greatest elevation gain, at 120 metres; Keltertal has 60 metres. This lets you compare distance and elevation gain separately, rather than assuming that the longest route also has the greatest elevation gain.

When looking for a holiday apartment in Vöhringen, you can use your hiking plans to help you decide: would you like to include a longer trail, follow a route with named stops, or choose a shorter loop?

Check the current trail conditions before setting out on a hike. If you would like to use the hiking map created in 2011, it is also worth checking whether it is currently available.

Culture in the wider destination of Rottweil

In the wider destination of Rottweil, the Salinenmuseum Unteres Bohrhaus focuses on the production of boiled salt. It presents the process in original buildings, with original equipment, a waterwheel, and two brine pumps. The museum also explains the history and significance of the former Royal Saltworks Wilhelmshall, described as Rottweil’s oldest industrial enterprise.

The Dominican Museum focuses on a different subject. Its “Roman Rottweil – Arae Flaviae” section depicts a day in Roman Rottweil on 4 August 186 AD: from the forum in the morning through various public and private engagements to a feast in the evening. Reconstructions and interactive areas complement the exhibition. Visitors of all ages can try on a Roman wool tunic, a chainmail shirt, a Roman soldier’s helmet or shield, or a Roman rider’s saddle. If this hands-on activity is important to you, check before visiting whether it is currently available.
