The district of Bad Griesbach lies in the narrow, steep-sided valley of the upper Rench, where the Griesbächle flows into it. The course of the river and the stream’s confluence give the landscape a clear outline; at the same time, the town brings together a range of themes: a walk along the Rench, summer ski jumps, church architecture and waterfalls. This gives you different ways to plan your trip, whether you are interested in nature and activity, sporting facilities or taking a closer look at the townscape.
Walks and activities in Bad Griesbach
The walk from Bad Peterstal to Bad Griesbach follows the Rench all the way. It is also suitable for a pushchair. If you do not want to walk back, you can take the bus or train; check the timetable in advance if you plan to use this option.
The two summer ski jumps allow jumps of up to 60 and 30 metres respectively. International ski jumping events are also held at the jumps.
At the Church of St. Anthony in Bad Griesbach, the building is characterised by a rectangular Neo-Gothic nave with five bays, alongside two small chapels made of Buntsandstein (coloured sandstone). These details give the townscape a clearly identifiable architectural character. The Bad Griesbach waterfalls are also surrounded by wild, untouched nature. Bad Griesbach is also home to the “Schwarzwaldquelle” spring temple of the Schwarzwald Sprudel company.
For families, the Fairy-Tale Treasure Hunt starts at Weiherplatz in Bad Griesbach. It is recommended year-round; check local conditions before setting out. In terms of planning, the treasure hunt differs from the walk along the Rench: the former is a family-focused activity with a set starting point, while the latter follows the river and is suitable for pushchairs.
