Local History and Recreation in Biberach
Biberach combines local history with opportunities to spend time outdoors. The Old Cemetery, dating from 1884, is home to the “Moments of Local History” educational trail, which invites visitors to pause and explore. The trail therefore has a clear historical focus. Check local access conditions before your visit.
There are also opportunities for recreation on trails around Biberach, in the surrounding forest, and in the Täler and Auenpark. You can choose between these different settings according to your preference: trails, forest, or park. Conditions on individual trails may vary; take this into account when making specific plans.
Another historical connection is viticulture. It is documented as far back as 766 in the area associated with present-day Biberach. This adds an early perspective on viticulture to the history presented by the educational trail.

The Deutschhof in Heilbronn was built in the early 13th century and was once the seat of the Teutonic Order. It has served as a museum since 1991. Since January 2026, it has brought together the four collection areas of the Heilbronn Museums—archaeology, natural history, cultural history, and art history—under one roof. Heilbronn’s St. Kilian’s Church is known for its distinctive octagonal tower and is considered the first building north of the Alps with Renaissance elements. It provides a distinctive architectural feature alongside the Deutschhof.
The Vogelmann Art Gallery in Heilbronn presents temporary art exhibitions across around 800 square metres on three floors. Its focus is on sculpture exhibitions and survey exhibitions spanning Classical Modernism to contemporary art. In Heilbronn, experimenta offers around 275 hands-on stations for experimentation and practical discovery; the Science Dome presents laser and experimental shows on a 360-degree dome projection. Their focuses therefore differ: changing art exhibitions, hands-on discovery, and shows beneath the dome.
More than 70 expert-led courses in experimenta’s laboratories and experimental kitchen are aimed at kindergarten groups and school classes. Participants can program robots, examine DNA, or make gummy bears. The specific course offering may change; check in advance which courses are available on your preferred date.
The Köpfertal nature reserve lies in eastern Heilbronn, covers more than 30 hectares, and combines urban green spaces with valuable natural areas. In the lower valley, meadows, wetlands, and forests alternate; the upper reaches lie in the forest. The area has been protected since 1985 to preserve wetlands, ravine forest, and a rocky ravine. It also provides space for recreation and the protection of rare species.
