The marked circular trail starting at Tutschfelden Town Hall makes the landscape a tangible focus of a stay. Architectural history, the garden and golf offer different highlights. This lets you consider in advance whether you would like to spend your time mainly outdoors, exploring architecture or taking part in a sporting activity.

The circular trail from Town Hall

The marked Tutschfelden circular trail begins at Town Hall, making the village centre the starting point for this tour. The route is 9.04 kilometres long and takes about two and a half hours. This approximate time estimate helps you gauge how much of the day to set aside; you will need to allow extra time for personal breaks. The trail passes through forest, the Kahlenberg area, along the Holzweg and through vineyards. From viewpoints, you can look towards the foothills of the Black Forest.

The loop thus combines forest, vineyard and scenic sections in one circular route. The distance and approximate time are two different points of reference: you can take both into account when deciding how much time to allow for the tour. Sturdy footwear is recommended. As trail infrastructure and conditions can change, check the route before setting out.

Parish Church and Hohenstein Garden

The Protestant parish church in Tutschfelden was built in 1806 in the Weinbrenner style. Its interior furnishings include items from the former EttenheimmĂĽnster monastery. It also has an organ by Herbolzheim organ builder Blasius Schaxel, renovated in 1807. The date of construction, monastery furnishings and organ each give the church a distinct cultural and historical connection. It complements the landscape experiences with architecture and ecclesiastical furnishings.

The Hohenstein Garden offers a different focus. Set on former vineyard land, this naturalistic perennial garden covers approximately 3,800 square metres. Its features include ornamental trees and shrubs, spacious paths, a pond, vegetable beds and seating areas. The grounds combine planted areas and water with productive garden beds and places to sit, making their focus different from a walk through forests and vineyards. The garden welcomes visitors. However, access may depend on arrangements with the owners or dates when gardens are open to the public. Check in advance what visiting options are available.

Golf in Herbolzheim-Tutschfelden

For a different kind of activity, there is golf in Herbolzheim-Tutschfelden. The public nine-hole Heckenrose course offers views over vineyards and the Black Forest. Non-golfers can also play the course without club membership or a playing permit. Check availability and conditions before your visit. This option differs from the marked hiking route: the focus here is on the course and its nine holes, rather than a walk through the landscape.

Herbolzheim: Architectural Heritage and Wine Hiking Trail

Herbolzheim itself offers further architectural history highlights. The town hall dates from the Baroque period, was remodelled in 1891 and acquired a Neo-Renaissance façade. The gatehouse on Hauptstraße was the residential and administrative building of the Carl Kuenzer linen mill, founded in 1834. Herbolzheim’s historic townscape is also characterised by richly decorated rural half-timbered buildings with gable alcoves and high wine cellars dating from the 16th and 17th centuries. Added to these are Baroque townhouses with ornate portals from the late Baroque and early Classicist periods, between 1740 and 1800.

Another hiking option in the wider Herbolzheim destination is the wine hiking trail to Heuberg. It is about three kilometres long, well marked and equipped with information boards. The route runs from the market square to Heuberg Tower along a medieval route to Ettenheim. By comparison, the Tutschfelden circular trail is longer at 9.04 kilometres and starts at Town Hall. These differences can help you choose: one route is described as a circular tour, while the market square and Heuberg Tower are named as waypoints for the other.
