Mouxy lies on the first slopes of the Massif des Bauges in the Pre-Alps. Part of the western Mont Revard is within the municipality. This brings together two geographical references in the description of the area: its location on the Bauges massif and Revard as a destination on a route from Mouxy. The heritage of the historic rack railway, with its stop in Mouxy, is another feature. The landscape, routes and local history give the area several distinct facets.

Routes to Revard

The “De Mouxy au Revard” circular route follows the Crémaillère trail to Revard and descends via Pas du Rebollion and Col du Pertuiset. The route from Mouxy to Revard follows the former rack railway line for 7.5 kilometres; the historic railway line to Revard was nine kilometres long. These two distances refer to different measurements: 7.5 kilometres applies to the section along the former line, while nine kilometres is the length of the historic railway line. The route descriptions offer different points of reference when choosing a route: the circular route, with its named ascent and descent sections, and the route along the former line, with its stated length. Check trail conditions locally, as they may change.

Rack Railway and Local History

The former rack railway stop in Mouxy was faithfully reconstructed by an association. A locomotive stands in front of Mouxy station. There is a car park near the restored station; check locally before your arrival whether parking is available. A historic cattle-shoeing device is displayed between the car park and the station. As of June 2024, restoration work on this device was still planned. The stop and locomotive illustrate different traces of the railway tradition; the shoeing device adds another part of local history to the picture.

Heritage and Nature Around Mouxy

“Le poilu de Mouxy” is part of the Regional Park’s heritage trail. The memorial site features an obelisk with a crucifix beside a soldier. The soldier looks towards Christ; this gaze shapes the monument’s distinctive interpretation. It brings together mourning and hope in divine mercy for the fallen soldiers. The visible design and religious significance of the memorial are therefore closely connected.

The “Balade autour de Mouxy” walk follows a trail to discover the typical heritage of Mouxy and Clarafond. The walks thus offer different themes: the “De Mouxy au Revard” circular route leads to Revard, while the Balade focuses on the heritage of both places. During nature walks around Mouxy, golden eagles can be spotted above the Bauges peaks. This adds a potential wildlife-watching opportunity to the cultural and route-related themes.
