Lescheraines lies at the exit of the Banges Gorge. The Les Iles du Chéran area comprises four bodies of water spread along the river; from Lescheraines, two of them and the leisure complex with its facilities and activities are accessible. In the regional context, the village is regarded as a meeting point for the valleys and mountain passes of the Cœur des Bauges. Water, walking trails and local culture offer different starting points for planning your trip.

Water and walking trails along the Chéran

At the first body of water in the Les Iles du Chéran leisure complex, there is an equipped beach, a three-lane water slide and water play features. The bathing area was supervised daily from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m., from Saturday, June 27, 2026, to Thursday, August 27, 2026. If you plan to swim in a later season, check the applicable opening times.

The Promenade des Iles du Chéran first follows the Chéran River and the bodies of water, then continues through the forest to the Cascade du Pissieu. The “Promenade Confort” route starts at the leisure complex. It is accessible to families with strollers, older people and wheelchair users accompanied by someone else. If accessibility is important for your visit, follow this specifically designated route.

Fishing and local history

The Plan d'eau de Lescheraines is open for fishing year-round and is a second-category fishing water. The AAPPMA du Haut-Chéran fishing permit is the only one required. Before fishing, check the applicable fishing regulations and seasonal priority uses. The body of water is home to chub, perch, pike, carp and small white fish; fish populations can change with stocking and ecological conditions.

In the main village, opposite the church, there is a notary’s house. The tombstone of Abbé Laurent Morand, a 19th-century author, is located by the church wall. His writings are the most important historical source about the Bauges. Alongside the landscapes and water-based activities, you can also discover specific links to local and regional history.

Market, cheese and horse activities

A market is held on Tuesday mornings at Place des Cantalous (Le Pont) in Lescheraines. Confirm the date before you arrive. For groups, the Coopérative Laitière de Lescheraines offers tours lasting approximately one to one and a half hours, by reservation. They cover the production of Tome cheese, the AOP designation, the maturing cellars and a tasting. Confirm the tour before your trip and allow for the approximate duration when planning.

The Centre Équestre des Bauges offers rides and outings on ponies and horses for beginners and more experienced riders. These are distinct from the riding holidays, which last from two to seven days. Check availability in advance; the season and booking arrangements may vary.

In winter, the Centre Équestre des Bauges offers introductory and taster sessions in skijoring for beginners. Snow and operating conditions can affect availability. Ask about the conditions for your chosen date before making plans.
