Taluyers brings together early architectural history, marked trails and wine-related experiences. The Tour Sainte Maxime, the priory and the Église de la Nativité mark different periods; the trails range from a 1 km circuit to a 44.8 km point-to-point hike. The wine offerings also vary in format.

Early architectural history in Taluyers

The Tour Sainte Maxime was built before the year 1000 and also served as a watchtower. The Priory of Taluyers was founded in 999 and is listed in the supplementary inventory of historic monuments. The Église de la Nativité is a Romanesque church dating from around 1100. These buildings illustrate different periods of early architectural and founding history, as well as a later Romanesque building phase.

With its characteristic narrow lanes and fountains, Le Chater bears witness to the village’s medieval past. The quarter is also home to the Cuvier “Adam et Eve,” which is intended for cultural and heritage activities. The historic sites thus bring together different aspects of the village’s history, without all belonging to the same period or serving the same function.

Trails of different lengths and formats

The Circuit Germanie is a family-friendly walking trail and follows a marked 7 km loop through the surrounding area. Points along the route include panoramic views of Orliénas and Taluyers, as well as the Étang de Combe Gibert pond. The trail is marked with the PDIPR waymarking. To reach the Circuit Germanie, take TCL line 245 between Oullins and Rive-de-Gier and get off at the “Taluyers Place” stop. Check the travel information again before setting out.

The Sentier de l’Aqueduc romain du Gier offers a different type of route: this marked, 44.8 km point-to-point hike passes through Saint-Laurent-d’Agny, Taluyers and Orliénas. By comparison, the Circuit Germanie is a 7 km loop. The trails therefore differ not only in length, but also in whether they form a loop or a point-to-point hike.

The Sentier viticole de Taluyers is a walking trail through the vineyards of the Coteaux du Lyonnais. Five information panels explain the AOP, vineyard work and winemaking. The Gnolus route “Le vin des aliénés” is much shorter: it is 1 km long and takes less than an hour. Check its current availability before your trip.
