Oullins brings together nature and culture, reflected in its various green spaces and a cultural venue. Each park has a distinct character, from historic gardens to riverside landscapes and a park with play and sports facilities.

Parks between gardens, woodland and river

Parc Chabrières is located in the garden of a former private estate built by a Lyon silk manufacturer. Its wide variety of flowers and plants includes both wild and cultivated species. The park highlights both the history of the estate and the diversity of its garden.

Parc naturel de l’Yzeron offers a different perspective on nature. It covers 60,000 m² and borders the Yzeron. Tree species include acacias, hornbeams, chestnuts, oaks, maples, ash trees, beeches, yews, wild cherry trees, elms, pines, thuja and lime trees. The large meadow and woodland criss-crossed by several paths, with its old trees, complete this landscape.

Several protected species also live in Parc naturel de l’Yzeron. These include little egrets, white-throated dippers, buzzards, mallards, kingfishers and black kites. Visitors interested in local wildlife will find that, alongside the trees and woodland, this diversity of species is another distinctive feature. The species listed offer an introduction to the park’s natural environment; they are not a guarantee that you will see any particular animals on every visit.

Culture and activities

Every year, over a weekend in May, Parc Chabrières hosts the Fête de l’iris. The festival is dedicated to art, nature and sustainable development. If you would like to plan your stay around the event, check the exact date in advance.

Parc du Prado offers a different contrast. It was converted into a public park in 1982 and completely redesigned in 2001. Its facilities include play areas for children and a sports field. If these park features are relevant to your plans, you can consider including Parc du Prado in your itinerary.

Oullins-Pierre-Bénite’s cultural offerings also include the Théâtre de la Renaissance. This adds a distinct cultural element to the area’s nature and park attractions. Information about a programme or individual performances is not included here as part of travel planning.

Choose a focus for your stay

To help you decide, you could start by considering which theme interests you most: Parc Chabrières combines garden diversity with a historic estate; Parc naturel de l’Yzeron brings together a riverside setting, woodland, meadow and protected species; and Parc du Prado is known for its history as a park, as well as its play and sports facilities. The Fête de l’iris brings art and nature together over a weekend in May, while the Théâtre de la Renaissance is part of Oullins-Pierre-Bénite’s cultural offerings.
