A 250 m² pond with a secure wooden bridge adds a distinctive feature to Parc des Templiers. Échirolles also offers a range of things to discover: graphic arts and art, the city’s history, and green spaces and paths. What you choose to focus on can give your stay a clear direction—from visiting an exhibition to going for a walk.

Art, graphic arts and urban history

The Musée Géo-Charles bears the French designation “Musée de France”. Its holdings include collections and archives donated by Mme Lucienne Géo-Charles in 1982. The history of the collection offers a concrete way to explore the museum, without requiring art and urban history to revolve around the same theme.

Le TRACé’s artistic programme covers graphic arts, contemporary and modern art, industrial heritage, and the memory of the working class. The Centre du graphisme presents its exhibitions in Le TRACé’s three buildings. Its history goes back to the Mois du graphisme: the Centre was established as a continuation of the event, and the first edition of the Mois du graphisme was held in spring 1990. This allows you to explore graphic arts both as part of today’s artistic programme and in the context of the development of this event.

Another perspective on Échirolles is offered by the municipal Documentation-Archives service. It holds around two kilometres of archival records relating to the city’s almost 200-year history, its municipal services and its various municipal administrations. The municipal archive is free and open to everyone, but visits are by prior appointment only. So if you plan to visit, you’ll need to arrange an appointment.

Green spaces with different features

For walks, the Frange Verte offers a particularly green option, with paths located within the municipality of Échirolles. At Parc des Templiers, there is also the pond with its secure wooden bridge and a one-kilometre biological corridor leading towards Parc Robert-Buisson. Parc Croix-de-Vérines provides an additional 23,000 m² of green space in Échirolles. Each place has its own character: from a walk by a pond in the park to an extensive additional green space.

If you’re looking for a clearly defined activity rather than a walk, Parc Maurice-Thorez has three signposted orienteering courses. This gives you two distinct options: the paths of the Frange Verte for a walk, and the courses in Parc Maurice-Thorez for orienteering. Which one suits your day better depends on whether you’d rather walk or take on a navigation challenge.

Plan for water activities and getting around

The Stade nautique d’Échirolles also adds to the choice of activities. The facility welcomes users all year round and offers swimming, water aerobics, water polo, triathlon, para-sports and diving. If you’re coming for a particular activity, check the current programme and access arrangements in advance.

Échirolles city centre is served by tram line A, the Chrono-7 bus line and the railway station. These are the public transport options mentioned for reaching the centre. Check the current timetable before travelling. This lets you plan your journey around the focus of your stay, whether you’re most interested in art, urban history, green spaces or water activities.
