Biviers lies at Saint-Eynard, on the first foothills of the Chartreuse Massif. From Biviers, there are views of the Belledonne Massif. Part of the municipality lies within the Parc Naturel Régional du massif de Chartreuse; the Massif du Saint-Eynard, designated as a protected landscape, extends across Biviers and other areas. The protected areas have different scopes: the nature park covers part of the municipality, while the protected landscape designation applies to the massif. The landscape and cultural history therefore offer distinct focuses for a stay.

Walks, trails and climbing

The Massif du Saint-Eynard is suitable for walks and mountain biking. Hikers can choose between two routes: on the massif, the GR9 runs through rocky terrain from Col de Vence to the summit; the GR® 965 “Sur les pas des Huguenots” includes a stage from Grenoble to Biviers. The GR9 focuses on rocky terrain and the summit, while the GR® 965 is a route stage with Biviers as its destination. The Site d’escalade de Saint-Eynard climbing area is distinct from these routes: it can only be reached by abseiling and is reserved for experienced climbers.

Châteaux and local history

The Château de Serviantin, also known as Château Servien, dates from the 13th century; Abel Servien was born there in 1593. Its façades and roof have been listed as historic monuments since 1960. The 17th-century Château de Franquières is a remarkable example of regional architecture. The two châteaux offer different points of interest: Serviantin combines its age, Abel Servien’s birth there and its listed status; Franquières represents 17th-century regional architecture.

Visitors can stroll through the landscaped grounds of Château Servien, which date from the late 18th century; access arrangements may vary depending on the season. Access to the reception rooms is a separate matter: only some of them are open to the public during the Journées du patrimoine. Outside the specified dates, the château may also receive groups and school classes by reservation.

A church site in Biviers has been documented since the 11th century. The Église de Biviers houses 16 figurative stained-glass windows from the 19th century. A sundial near the hamlet of Plate-Rousset in Biviers has been restored; it is dated 1786. The stained-glass windows are in the church, while the sundial is a separate object near the hamlet.

Bicycle racks and a bicycle locker

Eight bicycle racks have been installed in public areas; a bicycle locker has also been set up on the RD1090, at the lower end of Chemin du Boeuf. Municipal mobility facilities may change. Therefore, check their current status before using them.
