Discover Neuvecelle through its diverse natural, trail and cultural attractions. When planning a stay, it helps to distinguish between the main themes: parkland, walking trails with different time requirements, activities by the lakeshore, or historic buildings and music.

Parks with Different Features

Parc de Neuvecelle covers five hectares arranged across terraces. Three wetlands—two reed beds and a pond—are connected by small streams. The park is listed as a ZNIEFF (Natural Zone of Ecological, Faunistic and Floristic Interest); it also lies on a bird migration route and is particularly attractive to many bird species. Terraces, wetlands and bird migration shape the character of this nature park.

Parc Clair Matin offers something different: it is an esplanade and promenade of just under 14,000 m², with impressive views of the lake. The park includes a children’s playground, picnic tables and an orientation board. In contrast to the terraced nature park and its wetlands, it offers a scenic promenade and the visitor amenities listed above. If you are weighing up landscapes and birdlife on the one hand and lake views on the other, the two parks have clearly distinct features.

Compare Walking Trails by Distance and Time

La Promenade is a 6.2 km walking trail that takes two hours. The Boucle des Oratoires (Ouest) is 4.2 km long, takes one hour and 30 minutes, and passes seven of Neuvecelle’s nine oratories. Compared directly, the Boucle is two kilometres shorter and, according to the stated times, takes half an hour less. La Promenade is the longer route; the Boucle combines a shorter time commitment with a route past seven oratories. This lets you compare the two walks by distance, duration and your interest in the oratories.

Activities by the Lakeshore

Plage de Grande Rive offers a lakeside walking path, pebble beaches for swimming, and a pedestrian area suitable for inline skating, cycling and scooters. Here, you can choose a different focus from the walking trails: stroll by the water, swim at the pebble beach or use the pedestrian area. The activities can thus be distinguished by the kind of experience you are looking for, without treating them as a single route.

Chapels, a Church and Music

The religious buildings also date from different historical periods. The present-day building of Chapelle de Maraîche was constructed around 1620. Only the base of the bell tower and its Romanesque door remain from the earlier chapel. Église de Neuvecelle dates back to the 12th century: it was originally built as a chapel for the lords of Neuvecelle within the walls of the castle. For Chapelle de Maraîche, it is therefore important to distinguish between the present building and the surviving elements of the earlier chapel; the history of Église de Neuvecelle begins several centuries earlier.

La Grange au Lac offers another cultural theme. Built entirely of wood, the music auditorium seats 1,200 spectators and 200 musicians and hosts numerous orchestras, singers and musicians from a variety of backgrounds. Its timber construction and separately stated capacities for audiences and musicians give it a different character from the religious buildings. Neuvecelle’s culture can thus be explored through both architectural history and music.
