La Clusaz offers a range of highlights: a vast alpine ski area, designated trails, a lake in the Confins valley and an interactive cultural space. The activities best suited to your trip also depend on the season. The ski area's operating dates depend on snow conditions; the bike park operates seasonally. Driving access to Lac des Confins is specifically described for summer.
Skiing and trails in the Aravis
The alpine ski area of La Clusaz spans five mountain ranges and reaches an altitude of 2,600 metres. It offers more than 1,500 metres of vertical descent. If you're interested in ski touring, La Clusaz has marked routes designated for safe ski touring. These tours lead into the cirques of the Aravis and onto the slopes of the Aravis range. Snow, avalanche and operating conditions are key factors for this activity.
There are 38 marked trails on the Massif des Aravis for walkers and snowshoe hikers. These should be distinguished from the 25 kilometres of groomed loop trails in La Clusaz: one figure counts trails on the massif, while the other describes the length of the loop trails in La Clusaz. The trails are freely accessible. You can view the loop-trail map at the tourist office; check in advance whether it is available.
A particular route can be described more specifically by its length and elevation gain: the cross-country route at Col des Aravis covers 14.1 kilometres and has 480 metres of elevation gain. It leads to a viewpoint overlooking Mont Blanc. Route conditions and markings may change seasonally; take this into account when planning.
Lac des Confins and the landscape
Lac des Confins lies above La Clusaz, in the Confins valley and at the foot of the Aravis range. In summer, it is directly accessible by car via Route des Confins. Check road conditions and any seasonal restrictions before setting out. At the lake, you can take a walk around it or sit back and enjoy views of the Aravis. You can choose between getting active by the water and taking a break with a view.
Reblochon and culture in La Clusaz
The Hameau des Alpes is an interactive cultural space devoted to two themes: the production of farmhouse Reblochon and the development of the La Clusaz ski area. The outdoor area includes a traditional sawmill, two water wheels, a communal oven, two granaries and old photographs of La Clusaz. A visit combines insights into local cheese-making with the history of the ski area and the preserved features of the outdoor area.
The Hameau des Alpes offers guided tours for groups and school classes by prior reservation. Opening hours and reservation policies vary by season; check them before your visit. If you're particularly interested in how Reblochon is made, you could also consider a guided tour at Ferme des Corbassières. It explains the individual stages of production and concludes with a complimentary tasting. Tours can be booked seasonally. Check current dates before booking.
Bike park and seasonal planning
The La Clusaz Bike Park is served by the three Beauregard, Crêt du Merle and Crêt du Loup lifts. Their operation is seasonal and may change due to weather or maintenance; check lift information before planning around them. Along with the designated ski-touring routes and the trails described above, the bike park shows how activities in La Clusaz depend on different seasonal conditions. When deciding what to do, it is therefore worth first choosing the activity you want and then checking its current operating or visiting conditions.
