Saint-Pantaléon-Les-Vignes combines a landscape shaped by several cultures with a parish church whose history spans several centuries. Wine can also be enjoyed in more than one way: on a marked trail and through wine-tasting experiences. During your stay, you can choose to focus on the landscape, architecture or local wine culture.

Wine Country and Trail

The commune lies amid vineyards, apricot orchards, lavender fields and olive groves. From the commune, you can see La Lance, the first foothills of the Pre-Alps. The landscape combines winegrowing with fruit, lavender and olives. The winegrowers designed and marked the Sentier des terroirs, which visitors can walk. Alongside the landscape, it offers a specific activity on foot, one that carries the terroir in its very name. If you are interested in the interplay between wine and its surroundings, you can make the trail a focus of your stay.

Church and Village History

The religious history of the place dates back to a cella founded by three Cluniac monks, which was mentioned in the Cluny Cartulary in 989. The present-day parish church of Saint-Pantaléon was rebuilt around 1480 and consecrated in 1509. Here you encounter two distinct points in the history of religion: the early cella and the later parish church.

The architecture also reflects several periods. A narrow Romanesque window dates from the late 12th century, making it older than the rebuilding around 1480. The church also has two side chapels of different sizes. The lavoir, the historic washhouse, and a 19th-century fountain add to the features visitors can see in the village. Those interested in architectural history will find several details here rather than just one historical point of reference: a window, chapels of different sizes and other architectural features in the village.

Wine and Tastings

Since 1969, the wines of Saint-Pantaléon-Les-Vignes have belonged to a communal Village appellation. This gives the subject of wine an explicitly named appellation history, in addition to the vineyards. The offerings each have a different focus: Cave de St Pantaléon offers guided tastings of its wines. At the Caveau, Domaine Gigondan offers wine tastings, advice and an introduction to the local terroir. Visits at L'O Provençale are free. The differences between a guided tasting, advice with an introduction to the terroir, and a free visit can help you choose. The Sentier des terroirs and Domaine Gigondan’s introduction also offer two ways to discover the terroir: on foot or through an explanation on site. As opening hours and visit details may change, check the latest information in advance.

Getting Around

There is a car park at the southern entrance to Saint-Pantaléon-Les-Vignes. The village is on the D941, which connects Valréas and Nyons. These details provide different points of reference: the car park marks a point at the entrance to the village, while the D941 provides the wider connection between the two named towns. This lets you distinguish between a local orientation point and the road connection in the surrounding area.
