Walls 1.30 metres thick, a 19th-century mural ensemble and a walk of around an hour give Réauville several concrete reasons to stay. The “royal” walk is a family-friendly loop for exploring the village and its heritage; the church, local history and landscape each offer a different focus.

Church and historical traces

The Church of Sainte-Marie-Madeleine was consecrated in 1281. Its Romanesque structure includes walls 1.30 metres thick. It also features a 19th-century mural ensemble: silhouetted depictions of ancient cities were created in 1871 by two monks from Aiguebelle Abbey. The consecration and paintings belong to different periods. The church thus brings together Romanesque architectural forms and a later visual world.

Réauville also preserves remains of the original fortified settlement, along with architectural decorations associated with styles from the 16th and 18th centuries. These traces add further aspects of local history to the story of the church: the fortified settlement, religious architecture and decorative forms each offer a different starting point for a culture-focused stay.

The Musée de la mémoire agricole is housed in former industrial premises near Aiguebelle Abbey, within the municipality of Réauville. Its agricultural theme and the former industrial purpose of the premises provide a different focus from the religious architecture and traces of the fortified settlement.

The “royal” walk: a loop with a set time frame

The 2.8-kilometre loop starts at Place de la Paix, by the cemetery. The walk takes about an hour and presents no particular difficulties. Its distance and approximate duration offer a clear guide when fitting the route into your day’s plans. This family-friendly trail combines walking with exploring Réauville and its heritage.

The loop includes the Rocher de la Vierge, considered a geological feature and a remarkable viewpoint. From there, you can see Mont Ventoux and the Dentelles de Montmirail. The walk therefore combines a defined route with a specific connection to the landscape; its approximate one-hour duration also distinguishes it from a longer outing.

Another option is the treasure hunt and mystery game “Madame de Sévigné et le serment de Réauville.” It is available until 31 December 2026, on request and by reservation. If you would like to include the game in your plans, confirm your preferred date and make a reservation in advance.

Landscape and nature

The La Gaffe area includes meadows fed by canals along the stream, as well as marshland beside the stream. It is home to a rare stand of grey willows. The slopes also feature holm oak stands and thyme-rich garrigue. The damp areas by the stream and the vegetation on the slopes thus form distinct landscape features within the area described.

At La Glacière, the Parsley Frog (Pelobates cultripes) and the plants Damasonium alisma and Sisymbrella aspera have been recorded. These species give the nature theme a specific connection to Réauville; their presence also makes this a different focus from the landscape features of La Gaffe.

Different interests can therefore guide your plans: the walk has a named distance and approximate duration, while the church and traces of the historic settlement span several periods. La Gaffe and La Glacière complement these architectural themes with described habitats and specific species records.
