Miribel brings together several historical themes and a distinctive landscape. The Église Saint-Sever features Romanesque and Gothic architectural forms; the Tour and the former Chapel of Notre-Dame-de-Pitié offer further traces of the village’s history. The Autour de l’Herbasse hiking trail provides views over the Herbasse Valley and the villages of Miribel and Saint-Bonnet-de-Valclérieux. This gives you a choice of experiences for planning your trip, from architectural history and religious heritage to a ceramics session and time among the hills and woodland.

Romanesque Church and Historic Buildings

The Église Saint-Sever is a 12th-century Romanesque church with Cistercian influences. The choir and flat apse are Gothic in design. This brings together distinct architectural features: the church is predominantly Romanesque, while the Gothic design is specifically evident in the choir and apse. Visitors interested in architectural history will find two clearly distinguishable forms here, which make it possible to identify the different styles.

The Maison dite Château de Miribel is located in the hamlet of Deveau in Miribel, in the Drôme department. It was formerly the maison-forte de Vaux, which was frequently mentioned in the 16th century. The property includes a salon with wall-hanging or panoramic wallpaper decoration and a dado. This salon was partially protected as a Monument historique by a decree dated 29 March 2005. The protection applies to the specified salon, not to the entire property as a whole.

The Tour is the only surviving remnant of Miribel’s former seigneurial castle and is thought to date from the 13th century. Together with some surviving residential remains from the 15th and 16th centuries, it suggests where Miribel’s original village centre may have been, in the Carrière district. The tower and residential remains offer clues to different periods in the village’s history, although the location of the original centre has not been established with certainty.

The former Chapel of Notre-Dame-de-Pitié is another historic religious site. It is mentioned in a 14th-century will and retains two small pointed-arch windows and paintings bearing the Beaumont family coat of arms. It is also included in the Route du sacré in the Drôme des Collines. When planning your trip, you can explore its architectural details, its historical mention and its place on this religious route.

Hiking Trail and Landscape

The Autour de l’Herbasse hiking trail follows paths and roads through hills and woodland. Along the way, it offers panoramic views of the Herbasse Valley and the villages of Miribel and Saint-Bonnet-de-Valclérieux. Check trail conditions before setting out.

Miribel’s elevated position also provides exceptional panoramic views. Walnut groves shape the landscape around Miribel and across the Herbasse area. This gives you a choice between distinct, clearly defined focuses: the village’s history or its landscape.

Ceramics and Practical Travel Information

La Maison Rose Miribel makes functional and decorative stoneware pieces and opens its studio for ceramics sessions where visitors can make their own pieces. You can choose between two- or three-hour sessions; there is no annual commitment. Reservations are required. Check in advance whether a session is available.

The last few minutes of the drive to Miribel follow small, narrow but well-maintained roads through the hills. Check road conditions before setting out. There is no regular public transport service to the village, so check current connections before travelling.
