Loriol-Sur-Drôme offers several clear themes for a short discovery trip: the regional Vélodrôme cycling route, with a branch into the town centre, traces of history and regional produce. The market, winery and producer shop each offer a different focus. When planning your visit, you can treat cycling, a walk around town and the market as separate interests rather than reducing the town to a single attraction.

Cycling and nature

The Vélodrôme is a 52-kilometre road cycling route in the Drôme between the Alps and Provence. It connects to the ViaRhôna via the bridge over the Drôme River. A branch of the Vélodrôme follows quiet, paved municipal roads into the centre of Loriol-Sur-Drôme. The regional route and the branch leading into the town centre therefore offer different options for planning a cycling trip.

The Réserve Naturelle de Printegarde is located near the Vélodrôme bridge and is a quiet zone for migratory birds. This adds a distinct nature element to cycling: the reserve is designated as a quiet zone for migrating bird species. Its point of reference is the area near the Vélodrôme bridge.

Market and regional produce

The Loriol weekly market is held year-round every Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. If you plan to make it a fixed part of your itinerary, schedule your visit for Friday morning and check the opening hours in advance.

At Domaine des Quatre Cerises, tastings for small groups and sales of red and white Côtes du Rhône Brézème AOC wines are available directly at the winery by prior arrangement. The À Travers champs producer shop has a different focus: it is 100% organic and brings together around a hundred local farms. The market, winery and shop thus offer different ways to discover regional produce; advance arrangements are important for a tasting at the winery.

Historical traces in Loriol

The Circuit centre ville Loriol walking route leads to the town’s historical relics. The surviving, restored advertising murals also bear witness to the golden age of Route nationale 7 as a holiday route. Together, the route and the murals offer two different perspectives on local history: historical relics and the former importance of a major road for holiday traffic.

One notable historic building is Maison La Guérimande, at 80 avenue de la République. The building is partially listed as a historic monument. The protected features are the façades and roofs, as well as the staircase inside; the protection order dates from 3 April 1992.

The histories of the Église de Loriol-sur-Drôme and the Temple de Loriol can also be distinguished by precise dates: the church was consecrated on 15 May 1864. The temple was rebuilt on its original site and inaugurated on 14 June 1807. The washhouse at Grande Fontaine was renovated and roofed in 1843. The Musée de l’Insolite was founded by Max MANENT in 1985. These historical details add architectural, religious and museum history to the town walk.
