Le Poët-Sigillat combines a village perched high above the valley, historic architecture and two walking routes of almost equal length but with different difficulty ratings. For planning, it helps to consider three distinct aspects: the landscape, the architectural heritage and the published trail profiles.

Elevation and landscape

Le Poët-Sigillat sits on a rocky spur at an elevation of about 780 metres and is the highest village in the Ennuyé Valley. The surrounding views extend as far as Mont Ventoux. From the ridge, lavender fields can be seen beyond the Pause Valley. Lavender cultivation in the area is mainly used to produce essential oil and hydrosols; the fields and their use are closely connected here. Another elevation landmark is Montagne du Poët, at 1,300 metres, which offers a viewpoint.

Two circular routes, different ratings

The Sentier de la Pause is a very easy circular route in Le Poët-Sigillat. It is 4.1 kilometres long and takes about 1 hour and 30 minutes; it starts at the church car park and ends in Le Poët-Sigillat. The route to Col d’Ambonne is a marked, moderate circular trail covering 4.15 kilometres, starting and ending in Le Poët-Sigillat. It offers a viewpoint over the Eygues and Ennuyé valleys. At 4.1 and 4.15 kilometres, the two routes are almost the same length; however, their ratings range from very easy to moderate. The small difference in length therefore says less about the challenge of each route than its stated difficulty rating.

Religious buildings and cultural heritage

At the entrance gate to the old village, dating from 1666, you can admire the bell tower of the private Saint-Bernard Chapel. Saint-Martin Parish Church is open to visitors. The two religious landmarks therefore offer different things: Saint-Martin is a parish church to visit, while Saint-Bernard is represented by the bell tower visible at the gate. A clapier is a pile of stones stacked by people. This traditional landscape feature complements the religious buildings with another human-made feature of the terrain.

Geology and landforms

In the Ravin de la Pause, erosion has exposed layers of limestone and marl. Unlike a panorama, the focus here is on the exposed rock: the landscape can also be viewed through its layers and the process of erosion. Together with the lavender fields and viewpoints, these provide several distinct aspects of the surrounding area.
