On the left bank of the Lauzon, on the slope of Dévès Hill and at the edge of the Mont Ventoux Regional Nature Park, lies Saint-Romain-En-Viennois. The village is considered to have a circular layout and to be a medieval village in the Pays Vocones. Historic buildings and offerings related to wine and tastings give you different ways to enjoy your stay here.
The Old Village and Its Buildings
You can explore the old village on foot from the mairie car park. Remains of the former fortifications can be seen in the defensive walls, offering a tangible link to the village’s history of fortification as you walk through it. The Eglise Sainte Anne was rebuilt in the 19th century. Its two bell towers differ in their design: one is topped by a campanile, while the other has a pointed roof.
Opposite the village is the Chapelle Notre-Dame-de-l’Annonciation, built on a rise of safre. A path alongside the washhouse leads up to the chapel. If you plan to take this path, check the conditions on site. This lets you see the village and chapel as two distinct perspectives on the area: the church in the village and the chapel opposite it.
Festivals with Different Time References
The Fête des lumières, held for the Sainte-Lucie celebrations, took place in Saint-Romain-En-Viennois in both 2023 and 2025. If a festival is important to your travel dates, check the dates of the next edition in advance. The traditional procession in honour of Saint Anne took place in July 2025 and followed the “petit tour” through the lanes; the route may change for other editions.
Wine, Brewery and Tastings
At Domaine Bernard, a cellar tour introduces you to the winemaker’s work and includes a tasting of the wines and other products from the estate. Visits are by reservation. The visitor offering includes Côtes du Rhône, Côtes du Rhône Villages and Côtes du Rhône Villages Puyméras, designated as AOP or AOC. The visit therefore combines insights into winemaking with a tasting.
At Brasserie Taka, a tour of the microbrewery followed by a tasting of its products is described. A description updated in 2023 specified year-round tours by reservation, on Wednesdays and Fridays from 4 to 7 pm and Saturdays from 10 am to 12 pm. Confirm the visit arrangements and times before travelling. The focus differs from Domaine Bernard: here, the microbrewery and its products are at the centre of the visit.
Valérie Fabre’s Oeno-Sophrologie combines sophrology, sensory discovery and wine. It takes place among Provençal vineyards overlooking Mont Ventoux. As this is an offering whose availability you should confirm before visiting, it is advisable to enquire in advance.
Puzzle Game and a Break
“Intrigue dans les villages” offers a different way to explore: Saint-Romain-En-Viennois is the starting point for this large-scale treasure hunt from village to village. Using a mission sheet, travel diary, map and other investigation materials, participants solve a puzzle. Ask the tourist office about the kit’s current availability.
The Aire de pique-nique du Lavoir is located in the Lavoir car park beside an old washhouse. Check the information about the Aire before travelling if you plan to stop there for a break.
