Saint-Zacharie offers two distinct reasons to stay: a ceramic history that has developed over centuries and trails through a landscape shaped by springs and streams. In the village, fountains, a former washhouse and a church with a long history of construction tell different stories about the place. Outside the village, you can distinguish named trails by their individual features and choose between local history and nature experiences.

Ceramic History and Industrial Heritage

Since the 10th century, Saint-Zacharie has produced roof tiles, bricks and everyday pottery for domestic use. In the 17th century, the village became one of the major ceramic centres. The ceramic kilns are among the five important stops on the Var Industrial Heritage Route.

This history links the early production of goods for the home and everyday life with the village’s later importance as a ceramic centre. The Industrial Heritage Route offers a tangible point of interest for anyone interested in the village’s craft and industrial past.

Fountains, Washhouse and Church

There are 16 fountains in the village streets. Another historic site lies on the banks of the Huveaune: the former washhouse at Pont de Saint-Roch was a meeting place for the washerwomen of Saint-Zacharie. The village fountains and the washhouse on the riverbank reflect two different connections with water.

Saint-Zacharie’s church also has a long history of construction. Its first building phase dates to the 11th century; later additions followed up to the 17th century. The church is listed as a historic monument. It also houses the relic “Lou San Sabatoun”.

Springs and Trails Around Saint-Zacharie

The Chemin des Fées follows the watercourse along the Huveaune Valley. The section in Saint-Zacharie includes Marie, the fairy of the spring, in the Hameau de la Foux. The Sources des Nayes form a wooded spring site at the foot of the Massif de la Sainte-Baume; trails there pass through the forest and alongside streams.

Another option is the Promenade des Sources, an easy 5.4-kilometre walk. It starts at the tourist office at Square Reda Caire, passes the Source des Nayes and returns to Saint-Zacharie via the Piste des Sources. If a stated distance is important to you when choosing a route, this promenade offers a clear reference point at 5.4 kilometres; the Chemin des Fées is defined by its route along the Huveaune Valley and Marie in the Hameau de la Foux.

Trail conditions and forest fire safety restrictions can change. Check the latest information about the route before setting out.

A Summer Festival in the Annual Calendar

The Fête Votive of Saint-Zacharie is an annual summer festival with fairground rides, games and evening music. Programme details may vary from year to year. If you would like to include the festival in your stay, check the dates and current programme before your trip.
