Les Salles-Sur-Verdon combines days on Lac de Sainte-Croix with a village history shaped by the creation of the lake. At the water, you’ll find supervised water sports, equipment rental and a supervised swimming area, along with a nature trail and historic points of interest in the village. When planning your stay, you can focus on the water or choose a mix of lake, landscape and heritage.

Water sports and beach at Lac de Sainte-Croix

The municipal water sports centre in Les Salles-Sur-Verdon offers supervised activities on Lac de Sainte-Croix. At Margaridon Beach, pedal boats, canoes or kayaks, stand-up paddleboards, windsurf boards with foil and wingsurf equipment are available to rent. The beach also has a supervised swimming area; the lifeguard station is open in July and August. The beach is equipped with facilities and shaded, and adjoins a green space.

The Club Loisirs at the municipal water sports centre offers nine two-hour sessions for children and adults in its 2026 programme. The sessions are led by a qualified instructor; reservations are required. The course programme offers a clearly defined way to enjoy water sports alongside swimming and equipment rental.

The Margaridon boat ramp is open year-round and is exclusively for launching boats. There are no time restrictions.

Landscape between the shore and the village

The Sentier naturaliste de Toine runs around the village through a natural setting and follows the lakeshore. It offers impressive panoramas, providing a different focus from the activities on the water. The rebuilt village sits on a small rise overlooking Lac de Sainte-Croix; Margaridon Beach lies below the village. Both the view of the lake from the village and the beach on the shore are part of the local landscape.

Village history and heritage

The former village of Les Salles-Sur-Verdon was destroyed in the 1970s to allow Lac de Sainte-Croix to be filled. The history of the village is therefore closely linked to the creation of the lake. The present-day Église Sainte-Anne also tells the story of this transformation: after the former church was destroyed, it was rebuilt higher up in a modern style in the 1970s.

The discovery trail through Les Salles-Sur-Verdon lets you explore the heritage of the villages of Haut-Var. The trail is available as a download and at the tourist information office. The exhibition “Un site, une histoire” offers a closer look at the village, tracing the creation of Lac de Sainte-Croix and the village’s history through photographs.
