Carqueiranne brings together a variety of discoveries: a seaside park, a botanical garden, water sports and historical landmarks. You can choose which ones shape your stay according to your interests—for example, nature, sailing or local history.

Coastal park and botanical garden

Parc des Pins Penchés is by the sea, east of Port des Salettes, and has been a classified site since 1938. Its location and long-established status give the park a different character from Parc Saint-Vincent, whose grounds include a botanical garden with more than 100 plant species. If you are interested in plants, this garden offers a specific focus; if you want to take in the seaside setting, you can plan a visit to Parc des Pins Penchés as a destination in its own right. The two parks thus represent different aspects of Carqueiranne’s natural attractions, without promising the same kind of visit.

Choose a route and water sports to suit your interests

The Sentier du Littoral includes the “Balade autour des forteresses” route for Le Pradet and Carqueiranne. It is therefore designated as a route connecting both towns. Check local access conditions before planning your visit.

On the water, the École de Voile Municipale offers a different focus. In suitable weather, it offers an introduction to sailing in Carqueiranne, as well as other water sports: Optimist sailing, catamaran sailing, stand-up paddleboarding and sea kayaking. The options range from sailing to other nautical activities. Which one is right for you also depends on what you would like to try and whether the weather conditions are suitable.

The school lists All Saints’ Day, Easter and summer for its nautical holiday courses; sailing lessons are also offered year-round on Wednesdays. Seasonal programmes and the stated schedule may change. If a specific date is important for your trip, check the school’s current information in advance.

Fortress history and remembrance by the sea

Fort de la Bayarde is a battery dating from 1890. In 1988, the municipality acquired the fort from the French Navy. These two dates mark different chapters in its history: the construction of the battery and its subsequent acquisition by the municipality.

Another memorial stands at Pointe Peno. Erected in 1921, the stele commemorates a father and his son. The father was a scientist and humanist who contributed to the development of aviation in France: in 1896 and 1897, he launched a steam-powered flying machine over the sea. His son was killed in action as a pilot. The stele thus connects a local memorial with a family story that also encompasses early aviation experiments.

The FĂŞte de la Saint-Louis

The Fête de la Saint-Louis is a traditional celebration in Carqueiranne in honour of the patron saint of Port des Salettes harbour. At the celebration on 24 August 2025, Père Christophe Beaublat blessed the boats. Afterwards, a wreath of flowers was cast into the sea in memory of the deceased. Together with the fort, stele and two parks, the celebration offers another distinct perspective on Carqueiranne: one centred on history and remembrance rather than plants or activities on the water.
