Thuré offers a variety of themes to explore: historic estates, the Église Saint-Pierre, the “De Porche en Porche – Circuit n°51” walking trail and the Parc Aven’Thuré adventure park. The trail passes through forests and offers a viewpoint over Châtellerault and the Vienne Valley; the park is located in the forest of Thuré and has two courses for children. The type of visit is also important for planning: the Château de la Massardière has special opening times, guided tours of the Château de La Merveillère require advance booking, and the church can be visited independently. Check the respective conditions before your visit.

Historic estates with different ways to visit

The Château de la Massardière is a protected estate and is classified as a historic monument. It was built on the slopes of a small hill. The rectangular main building and two side wings together form a U-shaped layout. The estate is therefore defined by three clearly identifiable parts: the main building and the two side wings. It can be visited during special opening times. As opening arrangements may change, check the current visiting options in advance.

The Château de la Barbelinière is a manor house dating from the late 15th century, restored in the 20th century. It is set in a park; a wide avenue lined with plane trees leads to the estate. Its building history can be placed in context using two dates: it was built in the late 15th century and restored in the 20th century. The park and avenue are also features of the estate. Access arrangements may change; check the current conditions before your visit.

Advance booking is required for guided tours of the Château de La Merveillère. The tours include the grounds and one room in the house. Family archives may also be presented. If you plan to visit this estate, factor the booking into your plans and check the current conditions in advance.

Romanesque details and tuff stone

The Église Saint-Pierre de Thuré has a Romanesque apse made of tuff stone, with three semicircular openings. The capitals are decorated with corbels depicting human or monstrous heads. The apse therefore draws attention both to the shape of its openings and to its figurative stone decorations. The church can be visited independently. Check current access arrangements in advance.

Walking trail, viewpoint and nature

The “De Porche en Porche – Circuit n°51” walking trail passes through the forests of Barbelinière and offers a viewpoint over Châtellerault and the Vienne Valley. In the commune’s tuff landscape, the trail also takes in archways, the church and a Ferme découverte. The route thus combines different points of interest: forest and views on the one hand, and named buildings and a Ferme découverte on the other. When choosing your activities, you can decide whether you are more interested in the landscape views or the stops along the route.

Parc Aven’Thuré is an adventure park in the forest of Thuré. It offers two courses for children. This adds an explicitly child-focused activity to the cultural and landscape attractions. The number of courses may change as the attraction is updated, so check the current offerings before your visit.
