La Roche-Posay combines a distinctive thermal history with culture, golf and trails along the Creuse. Thermal history and spa
The Thermes du Connétable were inaugurated in 1932 and are part of La Roche-Posay’s heritage, which has been strongly shaped by thermal bathing. The Pavillon des Sources explores the history of the thermal company and cosmetics brand through an interactive trail. It includes posters, video archives and old objects. This places the company and brand history alongside the town’s thermal heritage.
Spa Source La Roche-Posay offers targeted programmes for skin health and wellbeing in a natural setting. Facilities include a heated thermal-water pool, a hammam, indoor and outdoor saunas, an experience shower and a heated whirlpool. The spa thus combines various water and heat treatments with a programme focused on skin health and wellbeing.
Donjon, town gate and exhibitions
The donjon is 25 metres high and is the only surviving part of the castle. A video mapping is projected onto the vaulted ceiling of the Hall of Echoes; the ground-floor exhibition highlights a local craftsman. The two areas of the building thus have different points of focus: a projection in the hall and an exhibition about local craftsmanship.
The Porte Bourbon also tells the story of the town’s former layout: it is the only main entrance from the 12th century that still survives today. For many years, it was the main urban passageway between southern Touraine and La Roche-Posay.
Another cultural venue is Espace Mose, a municipal gallery managed by the VIBRATION association, with free admission. Every year, it presents a wide variety of artists. The Casino de La Roche-Posay continues the architectural structure of the Château de Posay, which was inaugurated in 1932. The casino includes a gaming room, a bar, a restaurant and a concert hall. Golf, the Creuse and trails
Golf La Roche-Posay is an 18-hole course designed by Jean Garaialde, measuring 5,839 metres and with a par of 72. Its wooded terrain is gently undulating. The course is located in a 45-hectare biodiversity area and is presented as environmentally responsible.
The Boucle Bordeaux is a five-kilometre walking trail in the centre of La Roche-Posay. It passes through nature and along the quiet banks of the Creuse before ending in the medieval town. For a shorter option, Tèrra Aventura offers « Un bain d'eau de velours », a three-kilometre walk in La Roche-Posay. This free activity combines hiking with geocaching, giving it a different focus from the Boucle Bordeaux.
The Parc des Confluences on the Creuse offers canoe hire, a pétanque court, permanent and changing games, a relaxation area and a picnic area. In addition to canoeing, this riverside recreation area therefore offers games, places to relax and a spot for a picnic.
Seasonal markets and events
The Marchés de Pays bring together local producers and craftspeople, with meals put together to suit individual tastes and weekly entertainment.
