Le Tallud can be explored through several specific themes during a stay: La Péchellerie and the Church of Saint-Saturnin reflect its architectural history, the “Le Tallud - Vers la Trébesse d'Azay-sur-Thouet” trail starts at Place de l'église, and the Plan d'eau la Vernière offers leisure activities. The Thouet, with the Empince weir, and a Saturday food market round out the picture. The town’s offerings thus bring together culture, a marked trail and various leisure activities.

The Thouet and the regional setting

Le Tallud is one of 15 municipalities included in the 7,000-hectare “Bassin du Thouet amont” Natura 2000 site. The area given refers to the protected site as a whole. The Empince weir spans the Thouet in Le Tallud. The Natura 2000 site extends beyond Le Tallud’s municipal boundaries. Le Tallud is also part of the “Pays d'art et d'histoire” area.

La Péchellerie and Saint-Saturnin

The château in Le Tallud is called La Péchellerie and was first mentioned at the end of the 15th century. Two pepper-pot-shaped towers remain; they were shortened in 1929. For the chronology, it is important to note that the end of the 15th century refers to the first mention, not a documented year of construction. The Church of Saint-Saturnin has undergone little change since the 12th century and is in the Romanesque style of buildings in the Gâtine. The west portal is sheltered by an entrance porch known as a “ballet”, which was rebuilt in the mid-19th century. The church thus brings together a stylistic classification and a specifically named architectural feature. The Calvaire de la Foye is also part of the town’s history: it was erected in 1936.

Walking trail and waterside leisure

The “Le Tallud - Vers la Trébesse d'Azay-sur-Thouet” trail starts at Place de l'église. It is marked yellow at first, then yellow and red along the GR de Pays du Thouet. Both the starting point and the sequence of trail markings are specified for planning purposes.

The leisure area at Plan d'eau la Vernière offers a playground, a pétanque area, fishing and picnic facilities. Part of the site is accessible to people with reduced mobility; this information does not apply to the entire grounds. If step-free access is important for your plans, check before visiting which area is relevant.

The food market takes place every Saturday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Place de l'Église. The walking trail also starts at this square. For the market, the fixed Saturday-morning schedule is relevant; for the trail, it is the specified starting point.
