Pont-L'abbé-D'arnoult lies in the triangle formed by Royan, Rochefort and Saintes. Several ways of exploring come together in the town: a historic walking tour with QR code stops, a promenade through the arboretum, walking and cycling routes, and a regular market. Local history, outdoor activities and culinary events offer different starting points for planning your stay.

Walking tour, market hall and local history

The free historic walking tour “Pont l’Abbé d’Arnoult au fil du temps…” starts at Place du Général de Gaulle and has six stops with QR codes. The market hall provides a distinctive architectural landmark in the historic town centre: it was built in 1905 opposite the Romanesque church. The walking tour and the hall offer different perspectives on local history—one through several stops, the other at a single building.

The Maison des Aventuriers is also being developed in the town centre as an immersive, playful and family-friendly museum experience. It is located in a former 15th-century presbytery. Its development status is important when planning a visit: do not describe this place as a museum that is already fully open to visitors.

The arboretum and walking routes

The arboretum is a 500-metre-long promenade along the former railway line between Saintes and Marennes. The many tree species are identified with explanatory signs. Halfway along, there is a 180-degree view over the Arnoult Valley. The route combines a manageable stroll with a specific view of the landscape and information about the trees.

For a longer route, the 9-kilometre “Sur les Bords de l’Arnoult” walking loop starts at Parc de La Garenne. Comparing the stated distances, the arboretum’s 500 metres contrasts with a significantly longer hike. The GR 4 long-distance trail also passes through Pont-L'abbé-D'arnoult. These details help distinguish the different walking options without presenting them as a single combined route.

Cycling and fishing

Three cycling routes radiate out from Pont-L'abbé-D'arnoult. The local cycling route “Roue Blanche” is 77 kilometres long. This provides several cycling routes around the town and one specifically named long-distance route as distinct points of reference for planning rides.

There are fishing areas along the Arnoult at Pipelé and in the Val d’Arnoult. A fishing permit is required. If you plan this outing, take this requirement into account when preparing.

Market, Mojhette and brewery

The regular market takes place on Friday mornings. It offers seasonal fruit and vegetables, fish and seafood, cheese and dairy products, as well as plants and flowers. Check the market date before you arrive if you would like to include it in your plans.

The Foire à la Mojhette takes place on the third Monday in September from 8 a.m. to noon. The Confrérie de la Mojhette organises a lunch afterwards. Its fixed date and the lunch that follows make the festival a specific option if your trip coincides with this time.

La Boc17 is a brewery open to the public, with a cellar and bar; tours and tastings are also available. If you plan a tour or tasting, check the current dates in advance.
