99 percent of the municipal area of Le Gicq lies within the Plaine de Néré à Bresdon Natura 2000 Special Protection Area. This large share makes the protected area the municipality’s defining landscape feature. The Gravelle, a tributary of the Antenne, flows through the centre of the village. Two different scales are therefore at play: the protected area covers almost the entire municipal area, while the Gravelle is a specific watercourse running through the village. This distinction helps visitors understand the broader natural setting and the river in the village centre.
Fishing stretch on the Gravelle
The fishing stretch on the La Gravelle runs from the village of Gicq to its confluence with the Antenne upstream of Les Touches de Périgny. Its start and end points define a clearly bounded stretch, not the entire course of the river. The Gravelle may dry up in summer; conditions vary from year to year. For a fishing trip, both the named stretch and seasonal conditions are therefore important. Check the fishing rules and conditions in force before making plans.
Saint-Pierre: Romanesque architecture
Saint-Pierre Church is Le Gicq’s most important historic site and a Romanesque building constructed between the 12th and 13th centuries. Its west façade features a red round-arched portal with four archivolts. These are stepped arch mouldings that frame the portal. The choir has two 13th-century windows, framed by several small columns with crocket capitals. Crocket capitals are the upper parts of columns, decorated with hook-shaped ornamentation. Thus, the west façade with its portal and the choir with its windows are two distinct parts of the same Romanesque church. The construction period is given as a range, while the choir windows are dated to the 13th century: these dates refer to different aspects of the building.
Picnic area and overnight motorhome parking
The shaded picnic area in Le Gicq is on the banks of a river. The site also offers the possibility of parking a motorhome overnight. A riverside break and a possible overnight motorhome stay are therefore available at the same location. Rules and capacity for overnight parking may change. If you plan to use this facility, check both in advance. As a planning choice, the picnic area differs from the fishing stretch: here, the focus is a single location with possible overnight parking; there, it is a specific stretch of river whose water levels may vary seasonally.
Boule in Le Gicq
The publicly accessible Terrain De Pétanque boules court is part of the Terrain De Boules sports facility and is intended for pétanque and jeu provençal. The playing area is accessible to people with mobility disabilities. Visitors who want to include boules in their stay, alongside the river and the area’s architectural history, will find a specific court here and two designated games. Check access and conditions on site before your visit.
