Noyelles-Sur-Mer offers several distinct ways to spend your stay: departures on the Chemin de Fer de la Baie de Somme, the Notre-Dame-de-l'Assomption church with its art and history, the Chinese cemetery, and the Circuit du Héron. This helps you decide what to focus on: a train excursion, local history and a scenic route appeal to different interests. You can decide in advance whether to focus first on a train destination, the history of the church and cemetery, or the route through the landscape.

Train journeys from Noyelles-Sur-Mer

The Chemin de Fer de la Baie de Somme offers departures from Noyelles-Sur-Mer to Le Crotoy or Saint-Valery-sur-Somme. These two destinations provide a concrete starting point for planning your train journey: check the operator’s timetable for your travel date and choose the destination that suits your itinerary.

Church and sacred art

The Notre-Dame-de-l'Assomption church is dated to approximately the 13th or 14th century. Other authors date it to around the time the collegiate church was founded by Count Guillaume III in 1217. This is an alternative historical interpretation, not a precise construction date for Notre-Dame-de-l'Assomption. It is therefore important to distinguish between the broad dating and the reference to the foundation: both remain approximate, even though the year 1217 provides a specific historical reference point.

The church also houses a polychrome wooden statue of Saint Margaret from the 16th century. It was classified as a historic monument by decree on 4 January 1915. The statue provides a more precise date than the building itself, whose dating remains approximate; thus, the building’s history and sacred art represent different historical layers.

The CWGC Chinese Cemetery

The CWGC Chinese Cemetery contains the graves of 842 Chinese labourers who were employed by the British Army in 1916. The Commonwealth War Graves Commission established it in 1921. The dates mark different stages: 1916, when the labourers were employed, and 1921, when the cemetery was established. The cemetery is also listed as a World Heritage Site. For a thematic choice, this site differs from the church: the focus here is on the history of the Chinese labourers and the memorial, while the church focuses on building history and a sacred statue.

The landscape of the Circuit du Héron

The Circuit du Héron leads from the bay across low-lying fields to the plain and follows country roads lined with pastures and meadows. The route also leads to Noyelles-Sur-Mer. This description of the landscape combines a change of scenery with a clear destination. For planning purposes, this is a different emphasis from the train journey: there, you choose between Le Crotoy and Saint-Valery-sur-Somme, while the Circuit focuses on the landscape along the route and arrival in Noyelles-Sur-Mer.
