Béalcourt’s history can be seen in different places: at the Notre-Dame-de-l'Assomption church outside the village, at the adjoining Chapelle de la Vierge and at the Dolmen de Valibeau. The Le Sart Galant cycling route and fishing spots on the Authie add to these attractions. This gives you a choice when planning your trip between architectural and art history, a megalith and outdoor activities. These different themes offer a range of points of interest rather than prescribing a single reason to visit.

Notre-Dame-de-l'Assomption Church and Chapelle de la Vierge

The church stands outside the village of Béalcourt. It was formerly located in the now-vanished village of Mons. Its present location and this former connection mark different stages in its history. The church is built of dressed stone and was restored in the 16th century; it also preserves remains from the early 13th century. These include a round pier with a single shaft in the nave and capitals in the choir. The building thus brings together evidence from different periods: its dressed-stone construction, a later restoration and older architectural elements.

The Chapelle de la Vierge is attached to the church. Inside the chapel is the statue of Notre-Dame de Mons, which hangs from a vault pendant. This specific connection between the chapel, statue and suspension adds to the view of the church as a whole. The chapel has been listed as a historic monument since 4 March 1926. The statue and the main altar ensemble have been classified as protected heritage objects since 21 January 1980. The dates therefore refer to different objects: 1926 to the chapel, and 1980 to the statue and the main altar ensemble.

Dolmen de Valibeau: a different historical feature

At the exit from Béalcourt towards Hezeucourt lies the Dolmen de Valibeau, also known as the Dolmen de Valibout. It is a megalith and is now toppled; it once rested on three other stones. Its former arrangement and present condition are therefore clearly distinct. While the church is associated with architectural details and several construction and heritage-protection dates, the dolmen is described in terms of its megalithic form and the changes to its stone setting. The direction towards Hezeucourt places its location within the description of the area.

Cycling and fishing on the Authie

There are different options for activities too. The Le Sart Galant cycling route passes through Béalcourt and was updated on 29 June 2025. The Béalcourt–Le Frohen angling association offers fishing spots on the Authie, which is a first-category river. The cycling route and fishing spots describe two different options: the route is a cycling offering that passes through Béalcourt, while the fishing offering concerns spots on the Authie.

If you would like to plan your trip around a main interest, you can choose between architectural and art history, the dolmen, and activities such as cycling or fishing. The church offers specific architectural details and several heritage-protection designations from different periods; the dolmen provides a distinct megalithic feature. Cycling and fishing complement these cultural themes with two different types of activity. This makes it possible to consider Béalcourt in light of your own travel interests before looking for a holiday rental for your stay.
