Troussures brings together tangible traces of church and art history, a nature garden and spiritual offerings. Ways to visit range from a library for on-site consultation to a garden accessible only as part of guided visits. If you are looking for a holiday rental for a trip to Troussures, the purpose of your trip can help you decide: focus on history, nature or a spiritual retreat before planning your other visits.

Church, Art and Château

The Church of Notre-Dame de l’Annonciation was rebuilt after being destroyed by lightning in the 16th century. A 36.5 cm-high wooden statue of the Virgin and Child dates from the 15th century. It was restored and designated a protected object on 5 November 1912; it is kept at the Musée départemental de l’Oise. The church and statue offer two different historical perspectives: the story of a building and that of an individual work of art. Troussures Château adds to this historical setting with a 1,050-year history.

Library and Nature Garden

The Patrick Ansar Library holds 13,000 books and 5,700 periodical issues on history, art history and heritage. It offers a different cultural perspective from the church or statue: the focus is on topics explored through books and periodicals, while the church and statue provide tangible historical points of reference. Those interested in art history can view the library as a thematic complement to these local traces of history.

The nature garden, managed by PROFONDHIS, covers more than 15,000 m². It recreates characteristic biotopes of the Pays de Bray and shifts the focus from buildings and collections to the region’s habitats. Troussures therefore brings together a range of interests: history and art can be explored through the church, statue, château and library, while the garden offers a focus on the landscape. When planning your trip, it helps to treat these as different reasons to visit rather than combining them into a single sightseeing itinerary.

Spiritual Offerings

The Priory of Notre-Dame de Cana welcomes participants for spiritual retreats, training courses or individually arranged stays. The Hermitage of Sainte Claire is located in Troussures Park and offers time for silence and personal prayer in the presence of the Blessed Sacrament. Spiritual reflection is the focus here, distinct from the history of art and the local area. The spiritual centre of Troussures has 61 rooms.

Check Visiting Arrangements in Advance

The visiting arrangements for the library and nature garden are particularly important for planning. The Patrick Ansar Library has been open to the public for on-site consultation since June 2023, but only by appointment. The nature garden can be visited free of charge year-round; visits are guided only and must be booked in advance. The offerings therefore differ not only in subject matter: the library is for on-site consultation, while a guided tour is an explicit part of a garden visit. If either is a focus of your trip, make sure to arrange the required appointment or reservation accordingly.
