Thourotte combines protected green spaces with insights into the town’s industrial history. When planning a stay, practical distinctions can help: a 24-hectare natural area in the town centre, a park with a variety of garden areas, and a walking tour. Inland navigation is also a feature of the surrounding area—though in the neighbouring municipality of Longueil-Annel.

Green spaces with distinct characters

Parc des Effaloises is a 24-hectare protected natural area in the centre of Thourotte. A small stream runs through the park. It also hosts most of the municipality’s and local associations’ outdoor events. Its roles as both a natural area and an event venue are two distinct aspects that may influence your choice of things to do in Thourotte.

Parc de la Roseraie covers 8,500 m², is close to the town centre, and can be accessed via Boulevard Georges Pompidou. It is a green space for strolling. Its location in the former bed of the Oise connects the parkland with the history of the waterways: in the 19th century, the Oise was diverted to create the side canal that exists today.

At Promenade de la 32, the variety of landscaped areas takes centre stage. The parkland includes long lawns, flower meadows, a white garden, a grass garden, and a mineral garden. There is also a wetland area with plants, riverbanks, and slopes, as well as a traditional orchard with fruit trees and bushes. The park thus brings together a variety of garden styles alongside a wetland area and an orchard.

Industrial history on foot and by water

The Cité de Saint-Gobain interpretation trail presents Thourotte’s industrial heritage at eight stops. The route is 2.2 km long and takes 1 hour and 30 minutes on foot. Its length and duration make it easy to plan the trail as a separate block of time during your stay. One stop is Chapelle Louise de Marillac, also known as Chapelle Saint-Gobain. It was built in the early 1920s.

Another thematic highlight is explicitly located outside Thourotte: the Cité des Bateliers museum, dedicated to inland navigation, is located at the inland port in the neighbouring municipality of Longueil-Annel. The visit covers three areas: the museum building, the museum barge “Freycinet,” and listening stations along the banks of the canal. This makes it distinct from the trail in Thourotte in both location and subject: inland navigation is the focus here, while the eight stops on the Cité de Saint-Gobain trail present Thourotte’s industrial heritage.
