Explore Montreuil-Le-Henri through two historic buildings and a hike: the Château tells the story of the transition from wood to stone, while Église Sainte Anne brings together features from several centuries. Circuit Jéricho follows woodland paths through the Étangsort valley. Château and Église Sainte Anne
The Château de Montreuil-le-Henri developed from a motte castrale, an early type of castle. In the 14th century, stone replaced wood; this transition marks an important phase in its architectural development. On 3 June 1986, the Château was listed as a historic monument. Its history spans its origins as an early type of castle, its stone reconstruction in the 14th century, and its later listing as a historic monument in 1986.
Église Sainte Anne is also a historic site and monument. It dates from the 11th century and was remodeled in the 15th and 18th centuries. The nave has an 11th-century vault, clad with pointed, wood-panelled boards. A wooden Christ from the 13th century has crossed feet; a 16th-century terracotta figure of Saint Barbara is located on the left wall of the nave.
The painted decoration of the nave also dates from the 16th century. It includes a figurative funerary band decorated with coats of arms. Its design is considered rare and possibly unique in Sarthe. The church brings together architectural history spanning from the 11th century to the 18th-century alterations, with furnishings from the 13th and 16th centuries.
