Walking trails and water

La Milesse combines walking trails with nature observation and local history. A municipal publication dated October 10, 2025, lists three walking trails ranging from 4 to 8 km. Before setting out, check locally whether the trails are available and what their current lengths are. This range offers an initial guide when choosing a trail length. When planning, you may also want to consider whether you would like to choose a trail based on a specific landscape feature.

The blue trail, Chemin bleu, runs along the Antonnière stream and past the La Milesse body of water. This adds a named water feature to the trail length. The stream accompanies the trail, while the body of water is another landmark along its route. If you also choose a walk based on its landscape, the Chemin bleu offers a specific point of reference.

La Panière wetland

The La Panière wetland consists mainly of a willow carr dominated by grey willows. This makes the predominant woody vegetation the defining feature of this landscape. A survey in 2024 recorded 30 bird species there. This figure adds a second aspect of nature—the birdlife—to the description of the habitat, and is clearly tied to the year of the survey. Nature enthusiasts can thus consider the vegetation and the bird observations, dated to a specific year, as two different ways of exploring La Panière.

Unlike the Chemin bleu, the focus here is not on a route with named bodies of water, but on the wetland, its predominant vegetation and the bird species recorded in 2024. The two nature topics therefore appeal to different interests: a walk with a connection to water, or an exploration of a willow carr and its birdlife.

Church and Croix de Beaumanoir

The Church of Saint-Pierre was founded in the 11th century and is distinguished by rubble masonry made of Roussard sandstone. Rubble masonry is a building technique that uses irregularly shaped stones. Alongside its foundation, the building material offers another way to appreciate the church. The Croix de Beaumanoir is located near the church. It dates from 1636 and bears the coats of arms of the lords of Milesse. The dates refer to two different structures: the 11th century marks the church’s foundation, while 1636 is the date of the Croix. Their details also emphasize different features: the church is notable for its material, while the cross bears coats of arms. This makes it possible to distinguish the church’s early history from the later-dated cross as separate historical topics.

Nature and heritage offer different ways to approach La Milesse as a destination. The walking trails let you choose based on distance and, in the case of the Chemin bleu, on its connection to water; La Panière can be explored through its willow carr and the birdlife recorded in 2024. The church and the Croix represent a different focus: architectural history and specific design features. This lets you explore La Milesse through the topics that are of particular interest to you during your stay.
