Coudrecieux can be explored through several distinct heritage themes: a consistent brick aesthetic across its façades, the history of the Verrerie de la Pierre, and walking routes of varying lengths and focuses.

Brick architecture and glassmaking history

The façades of Coudrecieux feature notably consistent brick decorations and were largely rebuilt in the second half of the 19th century. The recurring brick motif gives the village a clear architectural accent. The date links this impression to a specific building period and makes the façades a distinct way of exploring the village’s history.

The Verrerie de la Pierre was established in 1733 near the Château de la Pierre and the forest of the same name, the Forêt de la Pierre. In 1841, the glassworks employed between 100 and 150 people. These two facts highlight different stages: the first date places its establishment in the 18th century, while the number of employees offers a specific insight into the scale of its workforce in 1841. Together with the brick architecture, they bring the village’s building history and industrial history into focus as distinct themes.

Two walking routes, different focuses

The Parcours-découverte de Coudrecieux is a circular walk of about 1.8 km exploring the village’s history and heritage. At about 7 km, the Parcours de la verrerie is the longer circular route and leads to the Château de la Pierre and the Forêt de la Pierre. Both distance and named destinations can help you choose: the shorter loop focuses on local history, while the longer one leads to the château and forest.

The Coudrecieux walking route explores the commune’s rich architectural and landscape heritage; information panels highlight its features. A digital version of the Parcours-découverte, complete with an audio guide, is available through Wivisites. As digital services can change, it is best to check availability before travelling.

The manor house and church of Les Loges

The Manoir de la Cour, in the heart of Coudrecieux, dates from the 16th century. Its grounds are managed organically and include a 300 m² vegetable garden, an orchard and old rose varieties. The house and grounds offer two perspectives on the estate: its historic architecture and the layout of its garden spaces.

In Les Loges, the church has a bell tower topped with a stone spire. Angels playing musical instruments are painted on the chancel vault. These are two distinct details: the stone spire as an architectural feature and the vault paintings as decorative artwork.

Tourism information updated in January 2023 listed a free picnic area at the Manoir de la Cour for walking and cycling groups; barns could be used in bad weather. If you plan to use this facility, confirm before your visit that it is still available.
