Beaumont-Sur-Sarthe was built in the middle of a bend in the Sarthe. The banks of the Sarthe are used for walks, and La Motte Ă  Madame offers panoramic views over the river. Other travel-planning options include Romanesque architecture, a route through the streets and a cycling stage to Le Mans.

River Landscapes and Outdoor Activities

The area around La Motte à Madame is associated with walks and relaxation. In the natural surroundings of Parc de l’Escargot, there are opportunities for jogging. The activities differ: a walk along the riverbank, panoramic views over the Sarthe and jogging in the park. Another watercourse is the Lombron, a small tributary of the Sarthe along which the Moulin de l’Orière was built. While the walk and viewpoint lead directly to the Sarthe, the mill draws attention to the smaller tributary.

Romanesque Architecture and Art

The Romanesque bridge of Beaumont-Sur-Sarthe dates from the 11th century and offers a lovely view of the municipal washhouse. At Église Notre-Dame, the dates are close together but refer to different things: the stained-glass artist M. Ladon from Ghent created the windows in 1925; one of them depicts the 15 mysteries of the Rosary. The church’s Romanesque portal has been listed as a Monument historique since January 6, 1926. The remains of Château de Beaumont have been listed since January 6, 1927. Thus, 1925 dates the creation of the windows, while 1926 and 1927 refer to the listings of the portal and the castle remains. This distinction separates art history from heritage protection status without conflating the dates.

The façade of the Maison d’art contemporain features a mosaic made from recycled broken objects. This visible detail on the façade offers a different emphasis from the Romanesque structures: here, reused materials shape the artwork.

Heritage Route, Mill and Cycling Stage

The Parcours touristique et patrimonial runs through the streets of Beaumont-Sur-Sarthe and includes around thirty information panels. It starts at Place Dufour. As signs and information may be updated, check the wayfinding on site. The route provides a cultural focus for exploring the streets; the number of panels is approximate.

In summer, guided tours of the operating mill at Moulin de l’Orière are available on Sunday afternoons. Check the current summer schedule before travelling. This makes it possible to plan the mill as a seasonal activity, rather than assuming tours are available regardless of when you visit.

The La Sarthe à vélo - V44 cycling route stage runs from Beaumont-Sur-Sarthe to Le Mans. The route is listed as 28.23 km long and takes 3 hr 03 min; it is well signposted from Beaumont-Sur-Sarthe. Check current route conditions before setting off. The choice of formats therefore includes a route through the town streets and a measured cycling stage with Le Mans as its destination.
