At Plan d'eau des Monteaux, nature watching and outdoor activities take centre stage: several observation huts line the Sentier ornithologique de l'étang des Monteaux, and a walking trail runs around the lake. Château des Coutures, the artwork Archeval and local agricultural produce add further highlights. This lets you explore Vivy through different interests without reducing nature, architecture and agriculture to a single theme.

Nature watching and trails at Monteaux

Several huts along the ornithological trail make it possible to observe local wildlife and plants discreetly. Each offers a different viewpoint. If you are particularly interested in the local natural environment, this provides a clear focus: observing rather than simply walking along the lake. The huts and the walking trail serve different purposes: the former are for nature watching, while the latter runs around Plan d'eau des Monteaux.

Other facilities are also centred on the lake. The leisure area has a playground and educational signs about local wildlife and plants. Anglers can also access the lake. This means several activities are available around the same body of water: observing nature, following the circular trail, fishing or reading the information on the signs. These are different ways to include the lakeside landscape in your day's plans.

The time of year is also a useful guide for birdwatching. From autumn to spring, many migratory birds pass through the Réserve ornithologique des Monteaux. The lake is designated an Espace Naturel Sensible. Together, these offer two ways to experience the natural area: observing local wildlife and plants, and watching the seasonal passage of birds. If birdwatching is your main interest, autumn to spring is the recommended period.

Château des Coutures, Archeval and agriculture

Château des Coutures is a neoclassical manor house built between 1835 and 1841 in the style of a Palladian villa. It is partially listed as a Monument historique. Its period of construction, architectural style and partial heritage protection give a visit a clear historical and cultural focus. Rather than simply noting the château's name, you can also appreciate its architectural form and heritage status.

The château's grounds, outbuildings and formal French garden are open to visitors. Seasonal access may vary, so check the current opening arrangements before your visit. This helps you plan realistically without assuming that the same visiting arrangements apply throughout the year.

Archeval offers a different way to experience culture: it is a monumental equestrian statue by sculptor Christian Renonciat. The artwork forms a huge horse silhouette from assembled metal tubes. It symbolises the arrival in Saumur, the capital of equestrian art. The image, material and meaning are connected: the horse shape refers to equestrian art, while the symbolism identifies Saumur as the destination.

Agriculture is also part of the area's character. Vivy's emblematic agricultural products include strawberries, asparagus and kiwi. These products complement the nature and heritage experiences with a distinct perspective on local production. You can therefore choose from several different interests: the lakeside landscape and its wildlife, the historic manor house and art, or the municipality's agricultural produce.
