Church and mill history, trails of varying lengths and the Moine give a stay in La Séguinière a range of highlights. From historic buildings to walks through bocage landscapes, woodland paths and wetlands, there is plenty to explore.

Heritage in La Séguinière

The choir of the Chapelle Notre-Dame de Toute Patience dates from the 12th or 13th century. The Église Notre-Dame de l'Assomption also offers a glimpse of different eras: it is protected as a historic monument, and its older section was completely rebuilt during the Renaissance. Carved vaults can be found in the south and central aisles. Some of the contemporary stained-glass windows depict the War in the Vendée, while others portray the life of Père de Montfort.

After restoration began in 2008, the Moulinard windmill was rebuilt stone by stone. The Logis de la Marche, built in the 15th century, can be seen from Rue de la Marche. Together with the two churches, these buildings offer different ways to explore the town’s history through architecture, restoration and visible traces of different periods of construction.

By the Moine: Moulin de la Cour and Grotte de Bibi

The Moulin de la Cour stands on the banks of the Moine in the commune of La Séguinière, where fishing is possible. A footbridge in the La Ménardière area provides access to the site from the RD 753. The Moulin de la Cour also has a fitness trail for visitors aged 12 and over, as well as a picnic area with tables, children’s play equipment and a barbecue. Access infrastructure and visitor facilities may change; check their current status before your visit. Fishing regulations may also change.

A footpath along the Moine leads to the Grotte de Bibi. It lies in a small clearing at the foot of a rock, near a spring. The path and the cave’s setting make this outing different from a visit to the buildings in town, with the river and the surrounding landscape taking centre stage.

Choose a route by length and focus

The “Au fil de l’eau” circular trail is 6.4 km long and takes approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes. It passes the restored Vieux Pont and is marked with a green symbol on a white background.

The 4.5 km “Dans les pas du patrimoine de La Séguinière” circular trail is marked with white footprints. It passes an old school, a chapel, a forgotten cross, a fountain and an old bridge. Along the way, the banks of the Moine offer a peaceful landscape.

The longest of the circular trails mentioned here, “De l’étang ruiné au château de Tiffauges”, is 15.8 km long. It crosses bocage landscapes, woodland paths, wetlands and several hamlets in La Séguinière. You can choose according to distance and the scenery described: from the 4.5 km heritage loop to the 6.4 km trail, or a longer walk through varied landscapes. The trail markings on the two signed routes may change; check the signs on site.

Wednesday weekly market

The weekly market takes place on Wednesdays from 8:30 am to 12:30 pm on Place de la Mairie and offers fresh local produce. If visiting the market is part of your stay, plan for Wednesday morning. Regular market hours may change; check them before your visit.

The places and routes mentioned offer different ways to explore the area.
