The GR 36 long-distance hiking trail crosses La Breille-Les-Pins from north to south. Together with the forest landscape, which covers around 2,000 hectares, and its location in the Loire-Anjou-Touraine Regional Natural Park, this shapes the character of the area. Cultural traces from different periods and two organised sightseeing options complement the main themes of hiking, landscape and history. This gives you several ways to choose your destination: a route and a place along it, building and archaeological history, and guided tours about foundry work and beekeeping.

Forest Landscape and the GR 36

La Breille-Les-Pins lies in the Loire-Anjou-Touraine Regional Natural Park, in a forest landscape covering around 2,000 hectares. The GR 36 long-distance hiking trail runs through the area from north to south. The Fontaine bouillante is located along the trail in the hamlet of Les Hautes Belles. Water currents are visible at the bottom of its basin, which is paved with tuffeau limestone; their movement gives the impression that the water is boiling. The forest landscape and the route represent different scales: one describes the wider setting, while the other is a specific crossing of the area. The Fontaine adds a named point of interest along the trail, distinguished by the visible movement of the water.

Traces from Different Periods

The present-day parish church of Saint-Etienne was built between 1864 and 1866 to plans by the architect Charles Joly-Leterme. Its construction period offers a clear reference point for the 19th century. The Menhir de la Mère Michel and the discovery of polished axes, by contrast, point to prehistoric use of La Breille-Les-Pins. A dated religious building and much earlier archaeological traces thus represent different periods. In Les Loges, some buildings of the women’s priory of Fontevraud Abbey have also been preserved. The church, prehistoric evidence and priory buildings offer different kinds of historical testimony; visitors interested in cultural history can distinguish them by their construction, earlier use and monastic connections.

Visits to the Foundry and Beekeeping

CBG Mignot organises guided tours for groups of 12 to 20 people. Visits are by appointment and include a demonstration of a figurine being cast in the former foundry. Casting is therefore a specific part of the tour. For those interested in traditional craftsmanship, the offering provides a clear framework for a visit.

In the hamlet of La Blottière, the Maison des Abeilles offers guided beekeeping visits during the hope days on the last weekend in July and August. Group visits are possible throughout the year. The seasonal dates and the year-round group option offer different ways to plan. Before travelling, check the dates and group arrangements if you would like to include one of these visits.

Dates and Visit Options

For trip planning, it is worth considering the options separately: the group tour at CBG Mignot is arranged by appointment; at the Maison des Abeilles, the hope days provide the seasonal schedule, while group visits are possible throughout the year. Check the relevant date before travelling. This is particularly useful if one of the visits is a key reason for choosing your destination.
