The church, Château de Servigny and the history of the local quarries give Yvetot-Bocage a cultural and historical focus. The Cidrerie de la Chesnaie adds apple products, while the La Clé des Champs plant maze offers a playful way to explore. There are different themes to choose from for your trip: architectural and local history, cider and apple products, or a trail with puzzles and games.

Church and protected features

The church in Yvetot-Bocage was classified as a historic monument by decree on 27 December 1973. Its main construction phases date from the 13th, 15th, 17th and 18th centuries. These centuries indicate the construction phases; the 1973 decree, by contrast, marks the date of its classification. The church’s protected heritage includes 21 items. At the Église Saint-Georges, the stained-glass window “Verrière de la vie de saint Georges” is among the protected items. The church’s heritage therefore encompasses both a long building history and specifically identified individual items.

Château de Servigny and local history

Château de Servigny is partially listed as a historic monument; the protection covers its façades and roofs. The German surrender was signed in the furnished drawing room on the first floor on 26 June 1944—the so-called Treaty of Servigny. The drawing room is also listed as a protected part of the château. Two distinct aspects come together here: the protection of specific parts of the building and a precisely dated historical event. The façades and roofs indicate the architectural focus of the protection, while the drawing room is associated with the signing.

Quarries as a backdrop to the built heritage

The history of the local quarries broadens the perspective from individual buildings to the material that shaped the area’s built environment. Yvetot-Bocage’s built heritage is closely linked to the working of numerous quarries. Stone from them was used to build manor houses, farms and grand residences. The quarries thus connect different types of buildings through the source of their building material. Alongside the church and château, stone quarrying is also part of the cultural and historical story of the area.

Cidrerie de la Chesnaie

The Cidrerie de la Chesnaie offers a different focus. It has been owned by the same family for four generations. Using produce from its 15 hectares of orchards, it makes cider, apple juice, sparkling apple drink, vinegar and various spirits, such as apple liqueur, 44 and Calvados. The product range may change. The cidrerie also offers tastings and tours of its cellars. As tour arrangements and dates may change, check visiting and appointment options before your trip.

Puzzles in the plant maze

The La Clé des Champs plant maze in Yvetot-Bocage offers a family trail with puzzles, games and activities that are renewed each year. Unlike the historical attractions, the focus here is on challenges and games in the maze. The trail is therefore a different way to enjoy what the area has to offer, without equating its history with leisure activities. Check the current opening dates before your trip.
