In Vesly, you can focus on three different themes: architectural history, landscape and cycling. The Église Saint-Pierre and the Manoir de Bricqueboscq represent two buildings, each with its own historical and architectural details; the Marais de le Mesnil adds a wetland to the mix. For cyclists, a 24-kilometre loop and the markings along the Lessay–Vesly route are relevant. These themes offer different points of reference to help you decide what you want your stay to focus on.

Church, chapel and manor house

The Église Saint-Pierre was built on a former Merovingian necropolis. The choir and side aisles date to around 1460. The church was granted the French “classé MH” historic monument status on 12 December 1996. This gives it several distinct historical connections: the former burial ground, the parts built later and its formal designation as a protected monument. The year 1460 applies to the choir and side aisles; 1996 refers to the protection status, not the construction date of the entire church. Those interested in sacred architecture can distinguish between the building phases and the monument’s protected status.

At the Manoir de Bricqueboscq, the focus is on its form: the rectangular main building is flanked by two corner towers. The manor house is partially protected as a historic monument. Its clear architectural form contrasts with the history of the Église, which relates to building phases and heritage protection. The two buildings offer different points of reference for exploring Vesly’s built heritage.

The Notre Dame de la Consolation chapel stands at the highest point in the commune of Vesly. Alongside the two buildings, it provides another topographical point of reference in the commune.

The Marais de le Mesnil wetland

The Marais de le Mesnil offers a different perspective: the 10.34-hectare site is a wetland comprising a mosaic of long-flooded wet meadows and willow scrub. Here, a mosaic means that several habitat types shape the area, rather than it consisting of just one uniform landscape type. The Marais is also classified hydropedologically as a peat bog—the term refers to the study of the area’s water and soil characteristics. Those who prioritise nature over architecture will find a distinct landscape focus in the Marais.

Vesly by bike

Vesly is a point along the 24-kilometre “Les Vents de Huppelande” cycling loop. The Lessay–Vesly cycling route has a different planning consideration: its markings are key. At every change of direction, special green cycle-route signs on a white background indicate the way. White road markings feature a bicycle symbol preceded by a double arrow. The loop’s length and the Lessay–Vesly route’s wayfinding serve different planning needs: one gives the distance of a circuit, while the other describes specific points to follow along a route.

The Borne de la 2ème Division Blindée is also listed as a sight along the Lessay–Vesly cycling route.
