Two routes cross Sourdeval, alongside local trails, Roman traces and a weekly market with seasonal opening hours. If you are considering the town as an overnight destination, you can choose where to stay based on your preferred focus: trails and landscape, historical sites, or a stay that includes a Tuesday market visit.

Routes and Walking Trails

The VéloWestNormandy connects the D-Day landing beaches with Mont Saint Michel and passes through Sourdeval. The Vélomaritime also passes through the town; its route runs from Roscoff to Dunkirk. Sourdeval also has numerous walking trails for pedestrians and cyclists. Locals and tourists use them to discover the local heritage and experience Normandy’s natural surroundings.

The Voie verte Sourdeval–Mortain is 18.1 km long and rated very easy. It adds a route with a clearly specified length and difficulty to the many local trails.

Landscape and Historical Traces

The Haute Vallée de la Sée circular trail passes old mills, spawning grounds and blueberry woods. The Beauvais circular trail follows the Voie verte through green landscapes where water is everywhere. The trail descriptions highlight different features: the Haute Vallée route focuses on several named sights along the way, while Beauvais emphasizes the water-shaped landscape along the Voie verte.

The La voie romaine et le chemin royal circular trail offers another glimpse of the past. It passes through the Bois de Bellevue, where several dozen metres of visible paving survive as rare Roman remains. The Circuit de Bellevue leads to the Voie Romaine; its remains can be seen at the edge of the forest.

The 7.850 km-long watercourse L’Yeurseul offers a different perspective on Sourdeval’s history: its water power was harnessed by local industry.

Market and Local Produce

The weekly market takes place on Tuesday mornings at Place Charles de Gaulle. In summer, it runs from 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.; in winter, from 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. As the schedule may change, check the market hours before your visit.

Stalls include local producers, a cheesemonger, a fishmonger, a greengrocer and a livestock farmer, among others. Alongside its regular day of the week, the market has a distinctive culinary and agricultural character. So if you are planning a visit, it is important to consider not only Tuesday, but also the appropriate seasonal time slot.

Étang de la Tessardière

Étang de la Tessardière in Sourdeval covers 0.8 ha. An additional fee is required for access; special rules posted on site apply. Take these conditions into account before planning a visit to the pond.

For an overnight stay, the choice of focus is therefore clear: the routes and their landscapes suit a stay centred on trails and nature, while a market visit depends on a particular day of the week and seasonal hours. Historical traces and L’Yeurseul add another perspective on Sourdeval’s past to these travel ideas.
