Discover Saint-Hilaire-Du-Harcouët through its architectural history and its walking and cycling routes. Notable highlights include the Tour de l'Ancienne Église, the Église Saint-Hilaire, the landscape along the Airon and the Plans d’eau du Prieuré. This lets you balance cultural interests with outdoor activities in different ways, while keeping the range of route lengths in mind.

Architectural history and cultural attractions

The Tour de l'Ancienne Église, also locally known as the “Vieille Tour,” is the oldest building in Saint-Hilaire-Du-Harcouët and dates from the 15th century. The tower of the former church is partially classified as a historic monument; the classification took place on 23 April 1921. At the Manoir du Jardin, the façades and roofs of the manor house and its chapel are protected. The partial listing of the Manoir as a historic monument took place on 27 December 1974.

The Église Saint-Hilaire was built in the 19th century at the initiative of Canon Amboise Carnet. The Norman architect Nicolas Théberge built it on the site of the Château de Saint-Hilaire-Du-Harcouët. After the fire in June 1944, the church came to be regarded as one of the symbols of the town’s reconstruction. Inside, a reliquary bust of Saint Hilary is displayed in a reliquary case in the north aisle of the choir.

The Médiathèque Marin-Marie is another cultural attraction: it is a place of discovery open to everyone, and both access and on-site use are free of charge. As opening hours may change, it is advisable to check them before your visit.

Walks, trails and nature

The municipality offers 13 walking and cycling routes ranging from 1.6 to 13 kilometres. Some are suitable for pushchairs. If this is important for your plans, note that it applies to only some of the routes. You can discover the landscape of Saint-Hilaire-Du-Harcouët along the River Airon; the arboretum showcases around thirty tree species.

Walks at the Plans d’eau du Prieuré are possible year-round with family or friends. A fitness trail is also available there year-round. Accessible fishing and model-building platforms are available for people with reduced mobility. Check the facilities’ conditions before your visit to make sure the activity is suitable for your planned date.

Cycling and other activities

The cycling route between Saint-Hilaire-Du-Harcouët and Pontorson follows the Voie Verte and is 50 kilometres long in both directions. Alongside the 13 shorter walking and cycling routes, it offers a separate option for a longer ride. Saint-Hilaire-Du-Harcouët is also on the Véloscénie, a cycling route connecting Paris with Mont-Saint-Michel. To choose a route, you can first compare the distance and character of the cycling route you have in mind.

Another annual event is the Foire Saint-Martin: the thousand-year-old fair lasts three days. Check the event dates and programme for the year of your visit. The 2025 edition also included a Village du Terroir; for a later edition, consult that year’s programme.

The Centre équestre du Manoir offers riding lessons and leisure activities year-round. Before travelling, check whether the activities are available on your planned date. Another option is the Furet-Company treasure hunt: this free mobile game includes twelve puzzles. Check in advance whether the app is available for your trip.

A local culinary tradition is also part of the town’s identity: Galette-saucisse is associated with the Saint-Hilaire-Du-Harcouët market.
