A 6.2-kilometre loop trail, a protected coastal landscape and evidence of local history offer you several ways to plan a stay in Maupertus-Sur-Mer. The route information also gives the approximate walking time and difficulty level; the beach and cliffs shape the landscape at Anse du Brick.

Coast and protected landscape

The Pointe du Brick site is open to the public and covers 401.74 hectares. Maupertus-sur-Mer is one of the municipalities within this protected site. Pointe du Brick is also part of the Natura 2000 site “Caps et marais arrière-littoraux de Barfleur au Cap Lévi.”

The Landes du Brûlé massif covers 330 hectares and is covered with heather, gorse and sea-buckthorn. Protected bats are found in the Landes du Brick, including the greater horseshoe bat and the greater mouse-eared bat.

Anse du Brick is a small, unspoilt cove between Maupertus-sur-Mer and Fermanville. Its sandy and pebbly beach is bordered by green cliffs. The cove is ideal for walks and experiencing natural landscapes. Please note that beach conditions may vary when visiting.

The Pointe du Brick loop trail

The hike has a clearly specified duration: the loop is 6.2 kilometres long, rated moderate and takes about two hours. It follows numerous bocage trails through the Maupertus forest and the Brulay heathland. Along the coastal path, the route follows the GR223. You can plan the hike as a separate activity.

The loop trail starts at the “Maupertus-sur-Mer – Anse du Brick” stop on the Cap Cotentin bus network. If you plan to travel by bus, check the current services before setting out. The stop is listed as the starting point for the trail; checking the service information will help you plan your journey separately.

The manor house and other traces of history

The Manoir de Maupertus can be viewed from the outside. It was built around the 17th century and has always been inhabited by farmers. Part of the manor house is protected as a French historic monument; the protection was registered on 30 May 1978. This makes clear the distinction between viewing it from outside and visiting the interior.

The church of Saint-Martin in Maupertus-sur-Mer has a pair of processional lanterns. The pair has been listed as a protected cultural object since 24 August 1990. The largest bunker on the Landes du Brûlé was used by the German army during the occupation.

Anse du Brick also has an industrial past: a granite quarry operated there in the 19th century. The extracted stone was transported to Lille via the port of Cherbourg. Alongside nature and hiking, these concrete historical themes offer further ideas for planning your trip.
